Things are about to get intense
Thursday 8/15/19...
I had a call with my business coach, Pat Lavergne, yesterday. He's looking to create version 3 of his consulting bootcamp and I raised my hand to be one of his guinea pigs. It's an 8 week accelerated program in which I will build out a lead gen machine and nurture program, and tighten up my buyer persona, messaging, offering, etc.
The thing is, he needs full visibility into what I'm doing to identify weak points in the system and make improvements. That's where things start to get intense!
We need to track my well-being on a personal level, so things like what time I wake up, when I hit my desk to start work, and when I close up shop for the day. Over time this will tell us when things are about to slow down and what steps need to be taken to avoid a bad mindset.
I have to fill out my calendar so we can start tracking my days. Not only how I spend my time, but how much I allocate to each function of my business - sales and marketing, client calls, writing, etc. Again, we're building a machine, so this can tell us where it's breaking down and what fixes need to be made.
Finally, we'll be tracking all my numbers - how many people I connect with on LinkedIn, acceptance rates, engagement on my content, how many calls that turns into, etc. This is the core of our data-set and will guide us in a lot of the tactical decisions we make.
This may sound like a whole lot, but honestly, I'm already doing most of it in some fashion. We're just adding in a few things or making adjustments to the current approach. But the insight it will provide is well worth the workload required to track all this stuff.
I'm going to get started on all of this today but will be taking the day off tomorrow (see, I know how to balance). I'm going camping with a bunch of friends, so this weekend will also be in tents...
Yupp, I'm just gonna leave that sweet Dad joke there to let it sink in. See ya next week when the intensity truly begins : )

This is an entry from my personal daily journal. I recently left the 9-5 to work for myself - something I've dreamed of for as long as I can remember. It's my hope that these posts inspire anyone looking to do the same or shed some light on what this journey is really like.

5 年Data collection is crucial to help us analyze and iterate. But as you say, spending too much time on this activity will just slow us down.? I personally make sure to track the critical activities and forego the rest.
