October is here! The days are getting shorter, the air colder and pumpkin spiced coffees are back on the menu.

There are plenty of exciting events happening in Bristol this month to warm up your Autumn. Here are some of our top recommendations of what to get up to this ‘spooky’ season…

Circus Extreme

Starting strong with Circus Extreme – there’s only one week left of this spectacular show so make sure you get in quickly to secure your tickets!

A one-of-a-kind performance, that has been five years in the making and features some of the most talented performers in the world.

Merging modern and contemporary styles with extreme stunts and classic clown escapades, audiences will be amazed by the jam-packed Circus Extreme production which features show-stopping performances that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Acts include the Ayala Troupe, who will be performing their award winning high wire act which has never been seen before in the UK, and freestyle motocross teams displaying cliff-hanger stunts.

Pumpkin Picking for Jack O Lanterns

You’re never too old to carve pumpkins, am I right? (don’t answer that!) Get yourself down to Avon Valley Patch, grab a wheelbarrow and roam through the massive home grown pumpkin patch to pick your perfect pumpkin. Don’t want to get muddy? Choose a pumpkin from the event area, they have a huge selection of gourd-geous gourds and super squashes for you to choose from.

Also have you heard about pumpkin patch nights? As the sun goes down, Avon Valley Patch lights up and creates a beautiful autumnal atmosphere! Not just open for pumpkin picking, there’ll be festival vibes with a pop-up bar, firepits, street food, performers, spectacular seasonal entertainment and beautiful lighting.

Candlelight: A Tribute to Queen

Speaking of beautiful lighting…there is nothing quite like a candlelit string-quartet concert to brighten the dark nights – did we mention they’re playing Queens’ greatest hits? Yes please!

Luxmuralis: Force of Nature Light Show

We’re sensing a theme here…more lights!

From the 30th of October until 4th November 2023, Luxmuralis, a collaborative team of multidisciplinary artists, are bringing a spectacular new light show to Bristol Cathedral.

Standing at the heart of Bristol’s vibrant city centre, Bristol Cathedral is one of England’s great medieval churches. For almost 900 years it has been a living place of sanctuary, teaching, prayer and music.

The light show, Force of Nature, is set to adorn the historic building in a stunning exploration of the creation and cultural significance of the four elements, earth, wind, fire & water. This latest light project will bring drama, power, artistry & wonder to the city by immersing it’s visitors through breath-taking visuals.

FEAR Scream Park

We simply cannot write a blog post about things to do in October without, of course, mentioning Halloween!

If you’re a bit of a thrill seeker and enjoy a fright – this one is for you! Voted the UK’s Best Scream Park for the second year in 2022, FEAR Scream Park is home to 5 terrifying scare attractions. The 2023 season opens this month for 13 terrifying nights of frights! Check out all their experiences via their website.

Woeful Wounds at the SS Great Britain

If you’re ready to full immerse yourself into the Halloween spirit, why not get a gory makeover at The SS Great Britain this October half term?

The event, which runs from Saturday 21st October to Sunday 29th October, will see students from South Gloucestershire and Stroud College recreate the cuts and blisters which would have been sustained by SS Great Britain crew members. With Halloween just around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity for visitors to step back in time and prepare for the spooky season.
