Things to Avoid When Relying on Your Gut Instinct

Things to Avoid When Relying on Your Gut Instinct

??Motivation for the week

In the intricate dance of human relationships, emotions often play a pivotal role. One of the most intriguing aspects of interpersonal connections is the phenomenon known as "gut instinct" – that inexplicable feeling deep within us that signals when something isn't quite right.

Often, when a relationship doesn't align with your values, needs, or genuine desires, your gut instinct will be the first to register discontent. It could manifest as a subtle sense of discomfort, a nagging doubt, or a feeling of unease. Trusting this instinct doesn't necessarily mean ending the relationship abruptly; it simply encourages you to delve deeper into understanding your feelings and the dynamics at play.

HOT TIP: While trusting your gut instinct can be a valuable guide, it's equally important to be aware of potential pitfalls that could cloud your judgment. Here are some things to avoid when relying on your intuition:

  1. Overanalysing Every Detail: While it's crucial to listen to your instincts, overanalyzing every detail of a relationship can be counterproductive. Trust your feelings, but avoid scrutinizing minor issues that may not have significant implications
  2. Ignoring Rational Considerations: Gut instinct should complement rational thinking, not replace it.
  3. Assuming Perfection: No relationship (partner, friendship or business) is perfect, and expecting flawless compatibility can set unrealistic standards. Your gut may signal discomfort during challenging times, but it's essential to differentiate between normal relationship hurdles and genuine misalignment.

In essence, trusting your gut in relationships requires a delicate balance between intuition and rational thinking. Avoiding these common pitfalls ensures that you make informed decisions that align with your true desires and foster genuine connection.

SWCHed On - Book Signing

Le'Siran Church Kitchen Book Signing

Throwing it back to the good ol' days when I was caught red-handed signing books in the church kitchen – yes, you read that right, the church kitchen! My demanding aunt, who also moonlights as a cook, insisted that I autograph the book pronto, and she skillfully captured my sheer joy in the act!

Back in 2019, I officially threw my literary hat into the ring with my self-published masterpiece.

At the time, I thought writing books was reserved for the bigwigs signed with fancy publishers like Penguin. Little did I know, 10 books later, I'm still in the game and relishing every moment – although I'll confess, it's a special kind of stress that comes with its own set of rewards.

Le'Siran Book Signing

Sure, you might find a couple of extra grey hairs on publishing day, but let me tell you, nothing beats the thrill of signing your own book that you've meticulously designed from cover to cover. I'm sharing this nugget of wisdom to let you in on a little secret: if you set your mind to something, you can absolutely achieve it!

So, here's to signing books in unexpected places and proving that even the church kitchen can become a literary hotspot. Cheers to chasing dreams and embracing the beautifully stressful journey of being a self-published author!

Wrapping Up 2023 Coaching: A Year of Lessons and Reflections

As we bid farewell to another year, it's only fitting to reflect on the insights gained through the coaching journey that 2023 brought. Tonight marks the conclusion of coaching for the year, and what a rollercoaster of experiences it has been. Here are three key takeaways that I believe are worth sharing:

1. Trauma, Diverse and Real

One undeniable truth that echoed through countless coaching sessions this year is the prevalence and diversity of trauma.

It comes in myriad forms, affecting individuals in ways both seen and unseen. From past experiences to current challenges, acknowledging and understanding trauma is the first step toward fostering a supportive and empathetic coaching environment.

2. The Common Thread of Anxiety

In the tapestry of shared human experiences, anxiety emerged as a common thread woven into the fabric of many coaching conversations. The challenges of the modern world, personal insecurities, and the ever-increasing pace of life contribute to a pervasive sense of anxiety. Acknowledging and addressing anxiety is an essential aspect of coaching, helping individuals develop coping mechanisms and strategies to navigate life's uncertainties.

3. Social Workers: Unsung Heroes Need Support

Through the countless stories shared in coaching sessions, it became evident that social workers are the unsung heroes of our communities.

The weight of their responsibilities and the emotional toll of their work are often underestimated.

It is crucial to recognise the vital role social workers play in supporting and uplifting communities. As a society, we must prioritise providing the necessary support and resources to these dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to make a positive impact.

4. Resilience: Beyond Buzzwords

The term "resilience" is often thrown around, but this year's coaching sessions underscored the real and raw nature of this quality.

True resilience is not just a buzzword; it's the ability to bounce back from adversity, learn from experiences, and adapt to change.

It's a journey, not a destination. Recognizing and cultivating resilience is an ongoing process that involves embracing both successes and setbacks as opportunities for growth.

As we close the chapter on coaching for 2023, these lessons serve as a compass guiding us forward. Trauma, anxiety, and the need for support among social workers highlight the nuanced nature of the human experience. Moreover, the genuine essence of resilience reminds us that strength lies not in avoiding challenges, but in facing them head-on with courage and determination.

Here's to a year of growth, understanding, and the unwavering spirit of resilience.
