There is no such thing as "devops"

Don't be offended, the subject is just a gimmick:) What I meant to say is, I have seldom seen a "dev & ops". I categorize myself as one and have lessons learnt. Some company may classify it as "System Engineer", but yet...not quite...

For a while, I do think "devops" means "dev & ops" but later to realize it really means "ops of dev environment" in many companies.

Devs love to change products. Ops don't touch products, only wrap around it. Vice verse, devs may be afraid of or unauthorized to or abusing "dev env", ops organize the env pretty well in a org scale. There are also audience differences. Devs think about customer Ops, Ops think about orgs/managers/CTOs...etc. There are a lots more differences in many aspects.

Though, I think these can be unified in some ways I incubates but not yet mature.

Let me know what's in your company and what do you think as a dev, ops, dev-ops, system-engineer...etc
