They're Not Running From You, They're Running From Themselves

They're Not Running From You, They're Running From Themselves

If you’ve ever had someone close to you suddenly distance themselves or back away as you leveled up, here’s a truth that might sting a little.

They’re not running away from you; they’re running away from the person they have to be in order to be with you or stay in your orbit.

This isn’t just about intimate relationships. This applies to friends, family, colleagues, clients, even the people who you think are cheering for you.

When you step into your Soul’s Side Hustle & your deeper mission here, you automatically trigger a shift.

And let’s be honest—change is hard. Not just for you, but for everyone around you.

It’s not because they don’t love you, or because you’ve somehow done something wrong.?

It’s because as you step into your power and rewrite your story, you force others to reckon with their own stagnation—and that’s uncomfortable.

Your growth challenges them to face their own fears, their own doubts, their own “what ifs.”

And the truth is, sometimes people aren’t ready to face that.

I’ve certainly been on this side of the street.?

In this life I chose to walk on all sides of the street so that I can walk with compassion when others are naturally triggered by me. I get it. I really do.

Why the Unknown Feels Like a Ghost, But Isn’t?

When you take the leap and say yes to your soul’s work, you’re stepping into the unknown.

But the unknown isn’t some monster lurking around the corner.

It’s a place where growth happens.

And growth?

Well, it’s not always pretty.

When you start following your soul’s side hustle, you become the person you needed to be in order to do the work you’re here to do.

And, becoming that person…. It doesn’t always come with fanfare.?

It often comes with fear, discomfort and a lot of shedding old versions of yourself that no longer fit.

And the people who are meant to stay? They’ll cheer you on. They’ll support you. They’ll love you through the messy parts.?

But the ones who can’t meet you there? And yes even the ones your discernment will reveal to you were subconsciously just trying to use you or ride with you for superficial reasons… they will fall away.

Why Would I Call Your Soul’s Work a Side Hustle?

Let me offer a reminder… You don’t have a soul, you ARE a soul.

So when I say “Your Soul,” just know that I’m still talking about what YOU ARE.

Now, when we call the soul work that we’re meant to do a side hustle, it’s a little ironic. It implies that this soul-aligned work—the stuff that lights us up and feels like our true purpose—-sometimes takes a backseat to what society, tradition, or fear says we should do.

It’s almost as if we’re easing ourselves into the idea of fully claiming it.

A side hustle feels less risky than saying, This is my purpose, especially in a world that might not immediately understand or validate it.

But the truth is: your work as a soul isn’t a side anything. It’s the main event.

It’s the work that your gifts, experiences, and heart have been leading you toward.

The only reason we call it a side hustle is because we’re still figuring out how to trust it, own it and let it take center stage.

Reincarnation - Kendrick Lamar Edition

When I talk about “Soul,” I also talk about what you brought with you in this life that has hindered you and/or elevated you.

Kendrick Lamar recently dropped his new album “GNX.”?

One song in particular stopped me in my tracks, and I listened to it quite a few times.

With its Tupac-esque vibes, Kendrick shared that he’d done a past life regression last year, and it turned his world upside down (paraphrasing…)

In it he paints a raw and vivid picture of what he uncovered from his past.

In one life, he was a gifted musician with plenty of money—-but he used his power to manipulate and mislead the masses.

In another life, he was a female singer on the “chittlin circuit,” seductively singing while battling drug addiction.

And then, in this life, he faced the weight of his father kicking him out of the house—-a wound he carried for years. But through his reflection, he realized the resentment he held wasn’t about his father at all. It was about his own pride.

In this song, [and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong since this is real time interpretation & reflection on my part], he then begins to speak of his father as God, telling him hard truths:

He was told that his heart was still closed and that his pride had to die.

That even while he was trying to push peace, he still loved war. #loveandwar

“Every individual is only a version of you. How can they forgive when there’s no forgiveness in your heart?”

It’s heavy. But it’s also deeply freeing.

Rewriting the Story

Kendrick’s epiphany wasn’t just about his past—it was about how his ego, pride, and unhealed wounds shaped his life in the present. His “father/God” called him out:

“You’ve spent centuries manipulating man with music.”

And Kendrick listened.?

He speaks of no longer taking his gifts for granted. The same gifts that once caused harm now hold the potential to heal.

His takeaway?

“No more putting people in fear. The more light I can capture, the more I can feel.”

This realization—-this choice to rewrite his story—wasn’t just for him. It is to help others take their power back.

The Soul’s Side Hustle Is No Walk in the Park

If Kendrick’s story sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a universal experience for anyone “waking up,” and living their purpose as a soul.

It’s messy. It’s humbling. It’s beautiful.?

It requires you to face the parts of yourself that you’d rather avoid—your pride, your wounds, your ego.

And it’s almost guaranteed to make you question everything.

  • Am I good enough?
  • Can I trust myself?
  • What if people judge me, leave me, or don’t understand me?

The fear of persecution is real.

The fear of abandonment is real.

And when you start stepping into your soul gifts, not everyone will come along for the ride, and sometimes that will hurt.

Some will fall away, not because of who you are, but because of who they have to become to stay in your light.

But here’s the truth: the only way to capture more light, to feel more, to live fully in your soul’s side hustle, is to embrace & let go of the fear that’s holding you back.

Forgiveness, Trust, and the Unknown

Kendrick’s story (if it is in fact “real”) reminds us that stepping into the unknown is an act of trust—not just in whatever you believe in… the Universe, God, Divine Love, Spirit, Unicorns, whatever—-but yourself.

When you let go of pride and open your heart, you create space for clarity, alignment & prosperity.

But trust isn’t built overnight. It’s a practice. It’s in the small moments of saying, “Even if I don’t have all the answers, I’ll take the next step anyway.”

It’s in forgiving yourself for the times you’ve doubted your gifts or played small.

One of my favorite lines is “Of course you did.”

It’s how you give yourself grace when you feel like you’ve messed up, or seemingly failed yourself or others for whatever reason.

It sounds blasphemous, but it’s TRUE unconditional love for yourself to say “Of course I did.”

You’re growing.

Trust is recognizing that the unknown isn’t here to betray you—it’s here to teach you, to expand you, to help you rewrite your story in a way that serves your highest potential.

The Karmic Echo of Your Soul’s Side Hustle

Kendrick’s past life experiences got me thinking about the way we all carry karmic echoes with us into this life.

The toxic, greedy version of Kendrick in the past? That’s part of his journey, his evolution as a soul.

And the woman on the “chittlin circuit?” She had her own struggles and triumphs.

But in this life, Kendrick made a choice to evolve—to use his words for change.

When you step into your soul’s side hustle , you’re doing the same thing.

You’re choosing to evolve.?

You’re saying, “I see the patterns, I see where I’ve been, and I’m ready to do the work that serves my highest purpose, regardless of who stays or who goes.”

The beautiful thing is that when you do the work, when you step fully into your soul’s side hustle, the right people will find their way back to you.

People who are willing to rise with you, who won’t run from your growth, but instead will run beside you.?

Those are the people you need—and the ones who were never meant to be part of your journey or were only there for a season of growth? Well, they’ll find their own path, too… Promise… whether that happens in this life or another.
