They = Cyber criminals

I’m calling it early - AI has officially been the topic of conversation of the year;

2023 - The Year of AI

It’s such a hot topic, that none of us can shut up about it for longer than 96 hours (the max amount of oxygen on Titan, R.I.P. ????).

While we’re all stoked about using AI to optimize spreadsheets, write emails for us, and generate flying purple Caticorns at the Eiffel Tower eating crepes, cyber criminals are hyped about it too, for different reasons.

AI Enabling Cyber Crime

  1. Deepfake Attacks:?AI is creating fake videos & audio that is so convincing, they trick people into revealing sensitive info.
  2. AI Phishing Attacks:?Scammers are using AI to clone genuine websites and con people into giving up personal data.
  3. DDoS Attacks:?AI can make distributed denial of service attacks more powerful, crippling systems with a flood of traffic.
  4. AI-Powered Ransomware:?Hackers use AI to find targets, send sneaky emails, and exploit system weaknesses for ransom attacks.
  5. Advanced Persistent Threats:?AI is the tool of choice for long-term cyber attacks, helping hackers sneak into networks and slowly steal data.
  6. Data Processing:?Hackers are using AI to analyze huge amounts of data, finding patterns that a human might miss.

I expect to see more stories emerging in the coming months and it’s something we should be paying attention to in the cyber community.

I’ve got my AI on it???.

More to come…

TRANSFORM SMARTER???

Ever heard of?SOUPD?before? I’ve seen it online on a bunch of blogs in the past, not quite sure where this originated, Google wasn’t very helpful on that request.

I most recently got reminded of it from?this blog from Devoteam ?and created this quick one pager to share out on Linkedin next week - you’re getting it early, but if you see me out there, drop a like and a comment every now and then.

It’s really basic. But then again, its the individuals and organizations who are ignoring the basics that end up getting hit the hardest.

Good Cyber Hygiene

In light of increasing AI threats, we encourage implementing good cybersecurity practices, summed up as SOUP-D:

  • Safeguard: Back up important information.
  • Origin: Consider the source of any digital contact.
  • Update: Regularly update devices and antivirus software to reduce vulnerability.
  • Password: Define secure passwords and use multi-factor authentication.
  • Do not trust: Be wary of all approaches, especially those involving sensitive data or operations, and seek confirmation through other sources.

These practices aim to counter the increasingly sophisticated and inventive threats presented by AI attacks, but nothing in cyber is 100%.

Stay vigilant.

PROMPT FASTER???

ChatGPT: Cyber prompts

I’ve found these two prompts to be incredibly useful and the responses you get appear to be very accurate. While you should always consult your cyber experts directly, this is a great way to learn best practices (in general) much faster.

I'm looking for best practices for developing effective policies
and procedures to prevent [type of cyber attack].

Provide step-by-step instructions to mitigate the
impact of a [type of cyber attack].

MidJourney: Zoom Out

Midjourney 5.2 was just released Thursday (6-22-23) and the new zoom out feature is a game changer!

I liked the results so much, that I switched the featured image to the new zoomed out 2x version.

Now on any upscaled image there are new buttons for zoom out 2x, 1.5x, custom zoom, and square.

/imagine cyber criminals gather for conference. They are super
excited and pumped. Lots of cyber junk in the background, keynote
speaker on stage, crowd going wild. Noir comic book style. Use
only these colors: Caribbean Green, middle yellow, and
black --ar 16:9

NEWS SMARTER???

100,000 Hacked ChatGPT Accounts Discovered on Dark Web

No alt text provided for this image

  • Group-IB found 100,000 hacked ChatGPT accounts, mainly from Asia-Pacific, on the dark web.
  • Russian hackers exploited these accounts, with stolen data traded online.
  • Regular password changes, two-factor authentication, and updated security are advised.

Why should you care?

If you use ChatGPT…

  • Using ChatGPT risks personal data theft.
  • Understanding breaches improves account protection.
  • Strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and account monitoring are crucial.
  • CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS
