Theresa May will hold an emergency cabinet meeting to ask senior ministers to sign off on a Brexit deal, after UK and EU negotiators hammered out a draft treaty. The agreement, details of which have not been made public, has already been criticised by pro-Brexit leaders including Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg, who argue it would mean the UK will stay under EU control. The UK government confirmed a Cabinet meeting would take place at 2pm today.

Google is taking control of one of Britain’s leading health technology developers, raising concerns that the tech giant is tightening its grip on NHS data. Acquired by Google in 2014, DeepMind’s healthcare division will cease to exist and be absorbed into Google Health. The decision comes just months after the artificial intelligence lab, which uses NHS patient information, promised never to share data with Google. Despite concerns from privacy advocates, DeepMind maintains it is “fully committed” to its NHS partners.

The Premier League has named Susanna Dinnage as its first female CEO. A senior executive at US TV network Discovery, Dinnage replaces Richard Scudamore who announced in June that he was stepping down from the division after 19 years at the helm. Dinnage takes over the league at a time when more people are switching to watching sport online. The appointment comes just days after a review found there are only 12 female chief executives among Britain’s 350 leading listed companies.

Npower has lost half a million customers this year, as the UK supplier continues to struggle with increased competition from "challenger" companies. Npower is on track to make a full year loss this year, despite ongoing cost-cutting, parent company Innogy revealed on Tuesday. Innogy also unveiled a £650m writedown following the delay of a planned merger between the retail arm of SSE and Npower, citing the UK government’s introduction of a new price cap on energy bills.

Lenders should consider bringing back controversial 100% mortgages, a key industry body has argued. The Building Societies Association made the call in a report on the growing reliance on the “bank of mum and dad” in the property market. The group claims stricter lending rules are hindering first-time buyers, and recommended tax breaks and other measures to encourage older people to downsize. Prior to the financial crisis, Northern Rock, which has since collapsed, offered loans up to 125%.

Idea of the Day: We need corporate compassion, says Ray Chambers, chairman of the MCJ Amelior Foundation.

“Since our businesses and places of employment take up most of our waking hours, should not those businesses become the centers of compassion in our country and in our communities?”

A nasty boss, a rubbish party or an expensive club - all democratically chosen by us. All these things can be left or changed without penalty or punishment. Mafia involvement isn't chosen and can't be left or changed without penalty or punishment. The EU behaves like the latter, not the former and I truly do not understand why this is acceptable to anybody, anywhere, as a matter of principle.
