Special Announcement!
The Science Behind Success audiobook.
The audiobook is officially out! There was a launch delay due to some mechanical issues in the rocket boosters, but now that it cleared, you can officially get onboard and accelerate your leadership.?
What's the fastest way to build confidence?
Confidence is critical to accelerated growth, and as a leader you need to demonstrate multi-directional confidence to different audiences. One of the most common barriers to confidence lies in the fear of not knowing what will happen if you fail. The solution? Build your failure and rejection muscles. I talk about some of the strategies in the accompanying?podcast, but perhaps the fastest way to build confidence is by changing your physiology.?Lift those arms and strike a pose. It changes your mind and can change your results.
There's no such thing as overtraining.
There’s no such thing as over-training, just under-resting. This is the wisdom I gained listening to Olympic champion marathoner Deena Kastor in her book,?Let Your Mind Run. Great wisdom, if only I’d have listened… My pursuit to run a 100km ultra-marathon has been slowed by a phantom knee injury. A week after my 50 km, I had run a total of 130 km in training, and then on the last step of my slow training run, I felt something in my knee. The penalty of under-resting is forced rest. Not only in athletics but in our professional lives as well. So, here I am. Doing my best to embrace the pain that comes with forced rest.
Also - speaking of under-resting, there will be?no newsletter?in August?as I detach from work as much as possible this summer. The fall is already lined up to be our busiest fall in the history of Level 52, so I’ll be resting while I can. I hope you do too.

Back to the flip this summer.
I did this last summer and I’m doing it again. I’m applying?creative constraints?to avoid the habitual distractions provided by my smartphone. I take the sim card out of my iPhone and place it in my?Alcatel flip phone?every Friday for the weekend and I’ll be doing it all summer. I still haven’t figured out how to text on it, so expect to get a slow reply every second week this summer. If you decide to give it a try, let me know what you think.
What would make you dread Fridays?
This is a question we have discussed internally at Level 52. How could we make our work so meaningful and fulfilling that we would dread the weekend? While we don’t want to spend all of our time working, if we looked at the weekend as forced rest rather than the agonizing finish line, what would be different? What would have to be different for us to dread Fridays? Whether little or big, there are opportunities for you to re-engineer your week.
Know someone who would be inspired by a little?Meaningful Leadership?in their day? Or are you?looking for past issues??Find past issues and?sign up to receive future issues here.
Make July meaningful and I’ll see you in September...
