There’s something better than a big voice

Let me share a quick story today.
Our family, like many others, enjoys streaming Netflix, Disney, and so on.
So, we rarely watch live TV anymore.
But my youngest daughter and I happened to catch The Voice recently.
There’s a lot to love about the show.
Because when you take everything else away…
It’s all about talent and singing.
Now, one of the young girls on the show truly had an amazing voice.
She could sing with a loud, rich, and beautiful voice.
And her coach said to her that it’s fantastic and amazing.
But…
She needs to learn when NOT to use it!
Immediately, my mind went to the Rehearsal Room.
You see, the lesson for that young girl is so relevant to what we want to achieve.
What do I mean?
It's really great to be able to project your voice across a space…
And if you can’t yet, there are exercises to bring your voice out.
But as great as a big voice is… there’s something better:
Using smaller voices!
As the young girl’s coach put it:
“You need to learn how to create light and shade in your song.”
That’s what we want to do in your presentations.
It’s also being considerate to your audience.
Imagine how they would feel listening to a lengthy presentation at full volume.
By the end…
Your message might not be as clear as their headache!
My point?
There are appropriate times for your big voice, your medium voice, and your soft voice.
And there are also moments for silence.
All of these are techniques to keep the attention of the audience.
Apart from your voice, you can change your pace, energy and body language.
It’s what I call “gear changes” within your presentation.
And it’s a major part of what I teach in the Rehearsal Room.
Drop me a line and we’ll talk about how to develop your voice.
Cheers,
Carmen?
