There's SO much to be PROUD of this month!?????
Dear Luminaries,
First, let me wish everyone a Happy Pride from me to you!?
Second, I wanted to take a moment to discuss what this month means to me, what it means to "take pride” in something. As a young woman of color I have found so much in my life to take pride in, but this month can be hard. When something about you is viewed as "different", your culture, your identity, your choices, you are taught to be ashamed, to hide it, and to NOT be proud. This month is a great time to address how we look at differences and learn to accept that our differences make us who we are.
It's important to remember that PRIDE started as a riot; as a rebellion of people taking a stand to be proud of themselves, their identities, who they are and who they love. This group started a movement, and because of them, people like me are allowed and able to take pride in ourselves, our identities, and our choices.
I identify with the LGBQT+ community. The spectrum of sexuality and gender is fluid, and I am still learning and growing within it! I take PRIDE in this fact and love that I am a part of a community like Luminary that not only accepts me, but supports me and the totality of who I am. Sometimes it still feels like a fight, you could call it a riot, within myself, but with this community's support, I am up to the challenge of learning and growing every day.?
So take a moment this month to be proud of yourself, to fight for others, and continue to educate yourself. There is still more we can, and will, accomplish, together.
