There's Never A Perfect Time

'But I don't have a digital cam.'

'I don't have a home studio.'

'I don't have the right equipment.'

?I have the content but I just don't have it all.'

Yes, these and many more are excuses we come up with when we are about to start something totally new. Unlike in the past when it was pretty hard getting some basic tools and access to knowledge, we have so much to be thankful for- the outburst and abundance of knowledge and resources.

I get it. Because we are often new to something, we always feel the jitters, hence thinking about the million and one things we feel makes us 'unprepared' or 'unqualified'. Sometimes, we don't seem to have it all. Other times, we just don't know where to start. Also, it may be that it just doesn't feel like the right time. But...when at all is the right time??Will it come? What signs that the right time is here or will be here soon?

Well, I noticed that whenever I waited or was waiting for the right time, it never came. Instead of waiting for it, I realized that I had to CREATE IT! That's my message for you today. Keep creating it till it becomes perfect.

Well, I noticed that whenever I waited or was waiting for the right time, it never came. Instead of waiting for it, I realized that I had to CREATE IT! That's my message for you today. Keep creating it till it becomes perfect.

Before I ventured into starting my Book Publishing and Consultancy Business, I was faced with doubts, fears, and many unanswered questions like What do I know? Who will patronise my services? Am I that good enough? What if I fail??What experience do I have?

But I also looked on the positive side and asked myself:

Didn't you start media about 9 years ago?

Haven't you been to a million and one launches?

Haven't you written ad copies and recorded Jingles??

Haven't you read and reviewed a million and one books?

Haven't you given authors million-dollar ideas?

Haven't you read and prepped as well as consulted in such fields??

Haven't you been able to single-handedly produce and host your show?

Then...why are you scared?

Though these built my confidence a bit, I still wasn't ready and felt I had to get it all together.

However, I didn't stop there. With new energy and fervour, I made a few enquires about business registration, read and watched some tutorials on how to start and manage a business, and started with what I knew how to do best.

Immediately I registered THE EDITORS HUB, I had my first client who made me handle his Book Launch, something I had NEVER done before! My God! After doing so?he was impressed and I was left speechless because I was like HEY, SO ALL ALONG YOU COULD DO ALL THAT?

I consulted for the venue, colours to use, social media management, event registration, protocol organization, sound, food, media and publicity (jingle production), Book Reviews, interviews, you name it.?

And you know the second most amazing thing about the whole process? This author found me online after my mini publicity...sharing posts and flyers (which I started sharing a few months back). And looking at my business and personal profile, he was like: This lady is whom I need. He called and that was it. And more shocking was the fact that someone in his office affirmed that I was the best he could work with. I was wowed, honestly.?This guy happened to have been a colleague of mine whom I had never spoken to our whole time in school!

The second most mind-blowing thing was whether to accept the offer or not. I know what you must be thinking. This is what you've been waiting for, why not grab it? So, the thing was that I was expecting my second child, and was due a month after the author's launch date. Whew?! How was I going to manage??

That's when my beloved cheerleader husband said: Why can't you? Just go for it.?I know what you are capable of. I'm here, am I not? But how do I put all these things together? He gave me a few tutorials and told me what to do, so I got back to the author and started work right away.

When the day finally came, everyone was like wow. This lady was able to do all that with her big tummy (well that's a whole other story).

What at all have I been trying to say with all these scenarios? There is never a right opportunity till you create it yourself. Even if you are good at it, keep learning and reading about it. There are a million resources for learning how to improvise or use what you have and make the best out of it.

So, if you're still reading this, know that you are capable and the best time comes only when YOU CREATE IT! I hope you have been inspired by my two pesewas.

PS: I nearly postponed writing this piece because I was waiting for the right time...lol...i know right!

Now go out there and CREATE IT!
