There's Always Another Level

There's Always Another Level

I was making small talk with the barber during my trip to get a haircut last week.

We started by chatting about the unseasonable heat and humidity in Columbus.

Once we checked the ubiquitous ‘weather conversation box’, we talked about where we were both from and our respective families.?

I suspected we would end there as that’s about as deep as it gets for dudes at the barber shop.?

Just enough depth to pass the time and to avoid the awkward silence.

But then he started talking about working out and the gym he goes to which prompted me to share that I was training for a Triathlon.

He proceeded to ask if I had done a race before. I shared that the Triathalon was a first for me but that I had done a handful of running events. I expressed my excitement to add biking and swimming to challenge myself in a different way.

“So have you always liked to challenge yourself with something new to see what happens?” he said.

I thought for a moment as he was opening the door to go a few layers deeper.

“Yes, I do. I like to see how I can push myself by doing something new.”

“There’s always another level,” he said.

So true.?

There’s always another level.?

Always an opportunity to push and challenge yourself.

To learn more about yourself.

To uncover and lean into the limitations that have been holding you back.

While he and I were talking about challenging ourselves physically, this mindset applies to everything…parenting, relationships with a significant other, the work we do, how we approach our finances, our spiritual health, and how we do or don’t stretch ourselves intellectually.

There’s always another level.?

It’s time to level up.
