"Therefore"? is the problem

"Therefore" is the problem

You hear stupid things all the time. Know what? It doesn't matter. (Cue Osmont: "I hear stupid people, they're everywhere, some of them don't even know they're stupid".)

So when somebody says stuff like, The Red Sox are the greatest team ever... or Socialism is better than Capitalism... or PCs are better than Macs...eh. You can just shrug it off. Just another particle of stupid floating in the ether. It's when they take it as evidence of some necessary action, especially on your part, that's what causes the gall to rise.

Like these Brazilian fires. All the media, the left, and the greens are looking at some photos and demanding instant mitigation. "The planet's lungs are on fire!" No critical thinking at all. To wit:

1. Most of the fires are on agricultural land, not rainforest.

2. The number of fires this month is higher than the last few years but actually pretty normal.

3. The running total number of fires this year in Amazonia is actually below the typical number.

4. The Amazon is not the "Planet's Lungs"... it does not contribute 20% of the earth's O2... less than 1%. Why? Because the plants and trees switch every day from being O2 producers to O2 consumers when photosynthesis switches to respiration... it's practically a closed system. (At night they create CO2 -- how come the greenies aren't celebrating the burning of these evil carbon factories?) So why get bent all out of shape to stop something that is normal, is not a problem, and does not contribute to your special interest concern?

Dollars or effort spent to mitigate these fires is wasted. This is great example of stupid/wrong THEREFORE stupider/wronger.

I've read a lot of these articles online. Therefore I will take an aspirin and go work in the yard.

PS: No actual PC's or Boston ballplayers were injured or intentionally vilified during the writing of this article. Socialists... that's another thing.
