THEORY OF LIFT (MY QUIET PLACE 28)
?I’m not quite sure growing up how early I got fascinated by airplanes but my first memories were of fear which later turned to intrigue. Once our seat belts were fastened and the announcements for take-off were made, I looked forward to the ‘big bird’ gaining momentum and then lifting itself off the ground. Pure magic.
?
I met someone in a training I facilitated recently who told me about ideas she had had for a quite a while but hadn’t quite been able to move from where she was. I get home and I’m in my quiet place at home (a place where I brood over events that happened during the day or a short period before)and I’m thinking of the lady and how much she had deposited inside of her and yet not being able to proceed.
?She has a regular job; she’s being paid fairly but derives no fulfilment whatsoever from the job. Her mind is filled with very lofty ideas but years have passed now and all she has had are mere dreams, nothing more. While I engaged her in a conversation, it wasn’t hard to see what the problem was.?She had her own peculiar challenges but for her to get to her desired destination, she had to see herself above the present circumstances or simply lift herself above her current state to thrive.
In the theory of flight, In order for an aircraft to rise into the air, a force must be created that equals or exceeds the force of gravity. Just like the plane if you are going to succeed, do the unusual, breakaway from the norm and rise above all the negativity that surrounds you. You need grit, discipline and sincerity of purpose. No matter how beautiful the airplane is, if it doesn’t taxi on the runway and in the process gain speed it won’t lift above the ground.
On your journey to success where is your present location?
Are you still admiring the beauty of your plane (your ideas)?
Do you have the right cabin crew (skills and competencies required)?
Are you still taxiing on the runway (preparing to rise)?
?No matter where you are, if you don’t rise up you won’t get to your destination. It is important that you realise that inside you is the power to rise above any situation or circumstance and become the best version of you. As I secretly take my sons’ cereal I just imagine how much potential we have on ground that should be in the air
