The Theory of Banana Skin
The banana, a fruit consumed on Earth and in space, with one recently selling at a price of $120,000 (see link below) – has a slightly deceptive nature.
The thickness of the skin determines how ripe the banana truly is, not just the texture and color of the exterior.
A simile to our day to day life in running an enterprise is derived to create The Theory of Banana Skin. The underlying correlation to an enterprise is simple – the skin is the part we want to get rid of, the flesh core is the part we relish. Unfortunately, the core comes with the skin in one unified package – all we can do is minimise the thickness of the banana skin.?
Should you have real satisfaction in your enterprise, one needs to find, analyse and minimise their overheads (Chapow-ed on head). While each enterprise has their own ways to minimise these overheads, there are certain constants
Overheads are generally related to production, where indirect raw materials like Plant & Machinery, and to resourcing and operations:
Talent and Resource Costs
These can be reduced by regular, hands-on and structured discussions and meetings with team members, which will be theme of my next publication.
Till then, let's begin the first phase - getting the right data and intelligence.
