The Program Working Group 2024, formed by representatives of the Board of Directors of Health Systems Global (HSG) and the University of Nagasaki, host institution of the next Symposium, have defined the central theme and the four sub-themes of the academic program of the 8th Global Symposium 2024: Building Just and Sustainable Health Systems: Centring? People and the Protecting the Planet.
The discussion will be organized around four interrelated sub-themes:
The chosen theme provides the opportunity to integrate into the analysis, regarding the challenges already recognized in the field of health research, new problems identified more recently but fundamental to the scientific debate. For example, the need to build climate resilient health systems with a planetary health perspective; strengthen governance, policy and institutional frameworks in the context of complex mixed (public/private) health systems and the diffusion of AI applications. The ethical and methodological challenges of long data such as the knowledge hierarchies that underpin exclusionary values and worsen inequity in health systems globally will also be addressed.
The Symposium will take place during 2024. More information here
