Thematic ETFs Move to Forefront: Whiskey, Fitness, Obesity on Menu

Out of 100 new ETFs launched this year, 20 are thematic. "It's like throwing spaghetti at the wall, and you never know what's going to hit," says Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas. The one that took in the most money is SHE, which invests in companies led by women. Themes such as obesity, whiskey and fitness may seem gimmicky but consumer activity and the fundamentals that drive the research behind them have merit, he says. But beware of concentration risk.
