That’s a Wrap + Reflection! My Undergrad Experience

As of today, I have received my bachelor’s applied science degree of Chemical Engineering Coop from the University of Alberta, and obtained a passing score on the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam.

It has been a challenging but fulfilling 5 years of university. I could not have done it with out the support from my family, they have stood by my side through all the highs and lows.

I also want to thank my friends, professors, mentors and colleagues that I have met; you all have made a tremendous impact on my growth and shaped who I am today.

Time flies, it was just yesterday, I was walking into the lecture halls of my freshman year, and now I just walked off my convocation stage with a degree in my left hand, and an iron ring in my right.

Taking some time to reflect, I found the following 3 takeaways:

Education from outside the classroom: University is a great place to get involved, whether it is through campus organizations, attending conferences, founding a startup, or competing in competitions. Learning outside the classroom has shaped me into a well rounded individual and provided me with a more fulfilling undergraduate experience.

Be adaptable and stay curious: University can be terrifying. Instead of shying away from my obstacles and challenges; I learned to overcome them, and in the process developed new skills along the way. I learned to be more curious of the unknown, sought out to understand, and leverage them to benefit my own personal growth. Time’s are changing, and in order to add value in tomorrow’s society, learning to adapt is inevitable.

Maintain life long connections: University is the greatest place to meet like-minded individuals. Reach out, connect, and build life long connections. It is not the courses I took at university, but the people I met that had the biggest impact on myself. They have changed my career goals and introduced me to new ideas and opportunities.

I am beyond excited to what to come in the future.

That’s a wrap for now!

Congratulations to the grad class of 2018!
