That's all I know so far - September
It’s fitting that I’m writing this post in the middle of October. September was a full month: Full of celebrations, stories, and putting the phone down to be present. I didn’t try to cram this post in and I’m comfortable with getting to it. ;)?
As I reflect back on my September, I can’t help but acknowledge all that’s going in the world right now. People I know and love are living in fear and thousands of innocent lives are being lost for no reason at all. It’s emotionally charged and a hard pill to swallow. As I’ve written before, you can feel the juxtaposition of emotions: Grief and gratitude, joy and anger, disappointment and relaxation. In that spirit, I want to share what's been on my mind lately.
Health, longevity, and overall wellness are the goals. I got into wellness coaching because the group I was a part of saved my life. Yes, I lost over 40 pounds but it also gave me a community of support and the tools I needed to take care of all of me. Certainly it isn't the only tool in my toolkit, but it is a huge contributing factor.
During last year, I haven’t seen the scale move, and it’s been frustrating. It makes me feel like a failure as a coach. If I can’t do what I tell my wellness warriors to do, why would they choose me as their coach? Here’s the thing, weight is one measure of health. Bloodwork, inches, energy level, sleep all matter. You also have to trust your intuition and know when something isn't right. I recently completed a cycle syncing hormone health course that taught me just that. The course creator, Jenny Swisher, constantly advocates for trusting your gut and listening to your body versus working against it.
Through that certification and a lot of journaling about how I was feeling, I went to my doctor and asked for a variety of bloodwork. The bloodwork revealed that something is off. Not to worry, this is not life or death. But it does give me answers to why I’m not feeling at my best, despite doing all of the things that are aligned to a life of health, longevity, and wellness.?
Now I’m on a mission to figure out what’s going on with this body at this moment in time. My goal is to help others get in tune with their body and work with it to have optimal energy and sustained health. If you’re curious about that, comment below, or message me directly. I’m happy to chat!
*That's all I know so far is inspired by the P!nk song of the same title. My hope is to have a twelve part series this year with monthly reflections.
