Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips!

Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips!

The holiday season is approaching and that means it’s time for friends, family, fun and food! There’s lots of hustle and bustle during this time of year and unfortunately, it’s easy to forget that all this excitement can be stressful for our fur-friends. It’s important to ensure that our pets (and turkey) stay safe during the Thanksgiving festivities. Here are a few tips on how to do so:

Stick to your routine: You may be busy but that doesn’t mean your pet’s routine should change. Pets are creatures of habit. They enjoy and feel most comfortable with structure and routine. Whether you’re traveling or staying home, keep mealtimes and exercise hours as close to normal as possible.

A tired dog is a good dog: This phrase speaks volumes! In addition to sticking to your pet’s normal exercise routine, you may want to throw in a bonus walk or trip to the dog park before guests arrive. This way Fido will be on his best behavior and hopefully sleepy during the gathering.

If you are headed outdoors at night to get some fresh air and walk off all that turkey, don’t forget to strap a Headlight Harness on your dog. This patent-pending dog harness provides superior lighting both for the user and those in their immediate surroundings, which helps to ensure safety for everyone. Highly reflective, water resistant and light weight; the Integrated, Focused Beam LED in the chest projects light up to 100ft and lights up the path ahead while making you and your dog visible to everyone in the area. Headlight Harness is available in various colors and sizes ranging from XS (up to 10lbs) through XXL (up to 200lbs). Learn more at: https://www.headlightharness.com/.

Provide your pet with their own personal space: When the commotion becomes too much, bring your pet to a separate room or an area within the home that’s quiet and calming for them. Be sure to give them access to things like water, toys, a bed, crate, etc. You can even play some calming music to really set the mood!

For pets who tend to get extra anxious when company is over, you may want to consider cannabidiol (CBD Oil). Studies show that CBD oil for pets can help treat a myriad of aliments including digestive issues, seizures, joint and muscle pain and anxiety. Prana Pets is a leading brand of natural pet remedies and known for safe, effective and quality products. Their CBD Oil for animal companions is no exception. It is a 100% Colorado grown, full spectrum oil that can bring much relief and comfort to animals, especially during the hectic holiday festivities! Learn more at: https://www.pranapets.com/. Invest in a gate: If your dog dislikes being closed off in a room or crate, invest in a gate instead to keep him out of the kitchen or dining area. He will still have the ability to see what’s going on and feel as if he’s part of the celebration; however it will eliminate the grubbing or being underfoot. It’s a great way to make sure the turkey is safe and sound too!

Paws off the dinner table: It’s hard to resist those adorable big eyes begging for a taste of your Thanksgiving meal, but it’s important to be mindful of what your pet is eating. Things like turkey fat/skin, onions, garlic, grapes and raisins can be toxic to animals. In addition, keep all food a safe distance away from pets, especially the turkey! Remember to be careful with your garbage. Ensure it is closed properly or you know who will go digging for leftovers. Lastly, inform guests not to feed the animals.

Distraction is best: It’s a smart idea to plan ahead and give your pet something to do while everyone sits down for dinner. A new puzzle toy, stuffed bone, or maybe a special treat or dog-friendly snack!

Safe and calm travels: If you are traveling with your animal companion for the holiday it’s important to tackle all pre-travel preparation ahead of time. Take a visit your vet to make sure Fido or Fluffy is in good health, update pet ID tags, have a packing essentials check-list ready to go, and secure your pet-friendly accommodations.

Pet strollers today are a huge trend and could come in handy during travels. Petique’s 5-in-1 Pet Stroller makes for an ideal travel option because it can be used in multiple ways, which will benefit both pet and owner in various circumstances during their excursion. You can carry it as a back pack, roll your pet around with the luggage feature (large EVA tires and double front wheels for easy maneuvering), attach it to your luggage, attach it to the car like a car seat, or attach it to the 5-in-1 Pet Stroller that it was solely made for. Utilizing the 5-in-1 Pet Stroller makes exploring the outside world much easier. It folds up for easy travel and best of all, it’s lightweight! It's fully equipped with breaks, stainless-steel wheels, a large storage basket and cup holder trays for your drinks.
