Thanksgiving 2019
My Thanksgiving post is typically one of my favorites for the year. I find it a great exercise to think and write about the things I am thankful for.
This year, my post is really about one theme: relationships.
It hasn’t been the easiest of years. I am not complaining, by any means, but both work and home life have been challenging at different times throughout 2019. My relationships have pulled me through, helped me thrive, and continue to help me improve in many facets of my life.
Some are new and some are old, but the people in my life who inspire me, support me, challenge me, teach me, make me laugh and so many other things are the ones I am so thankful for on this holiday. I find tremendous strength in my family, including my many many cousins, my friends, and my coworkers.
I shy away from asking anyone for anything. I am much more comfortable being on the giving end than receiving. However, I have learned to spread that joy and have tried to become much more comfortable in giving people who care about me the opportunity to have the joy of helping me.
Therein lies the magic. The win-win relationships. I have written and talked about it before. Stealing from Bruce Springsteen who said in his Broadway show:
“That when the world is at its best, when we are at our best, when life feels fullest, one and one equals three. It’s the essential equation of love, art, rock ’n’ roll and rock ’n’ roll bands. It’s the reason the universe will never be fully comprehensible, love will continue to be ecstatic, confounding, and true rock ’n’ roll will never die.”
I am simply obsessed with this concept and so thankful today for the instances in my life where it appears. I am truly lucky that I can list dozens who people in 2019 who have given me a glimpse of the world at its best, to paraphrase Bruce.
My grandfather used to say, “Son, you can never be too rich or too thin.” I would like to add to that. You can never have too much magic in your life.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for reading. If I can help you with your math equation, don’t hesitate to reach out!
