Thanks For Sharing - How To Make Shareable Content

When was the last time to shared something to someone online?

Did you click the share button, or copy and paste the URL? Doesn't matter, what we need to look at is the moment before.

You decided, "You know who'd love this...".

That's sharable content.

Most of the time it's done to make people laugh, or drum up a conversation.

A lot of shareable content you see online isn't necessarily created for that purpose.

It just grows wings and flies...

  • A video of someone falling over ?
  • Pets doing literally anything ??
  • Contrevesal statements for companies and politics ???

There are a lot of factors that make a post worth sharing.

  1. It's topical, relatable, and worth sharing today.
  2. The sharer believes it will bring value to whom they share it with.

Value doesn't have to mean life-changing it could just make them smile.

But, there is a dark side to sharable content...

For the sake of shares, people of the internet have weaponised polarising opinions.

Ironically each side plays the other in the game of views, with one side broadcasting opinions for outrage and the other for justice.

You can be polarising without being a cult leader, which is what a lot of people lose along the way.

Strong opinions will always get a reaction and the stronger the opinion the bigger the response it seems, so you can't have half measures when it comes to opinion pieces.

The middle road seems to have less teeth.

This sucks, because Journalism itself should showcase nothing is ever black-and-white.

That's just my opinion anyway...

So, here are the tips for creating shareable content

  • Tip #1 - Go all into a single topic

Essays have taught us to discuss both sides of the arguement, but this leads to lengthy and more complicated pieces, which leads to...

  • Tip #2 - Keep it simple

Simple to understand, and straight to the point. Long-form content needs to have some kind of pay-off at the end.

  • Tip #3 - Write for your audience

If you're looking to reach a certain type of person, get involved in their spaces. See what does well, what gets shared most often and unpack that.

  • Tip #4 - Just ask

If you want more shares you're going to have to ask for them in your content. It may seem cheesy, overdone and a bit uncomfortable to say or write, but adding a simple - share if you found this useful will make a difference.

A little nudge is better than suffering in silence.

So... If you find this newsletter and article useful, please give it a share around ??

See you next week,

Luke
