1.???? This Week's Encouragement:

Ever have one of those fun, gratitude-filled moments with your past self? I had a delightful one today. It started with a call from my building’s front desk. Apparently, a rather large package had been languishing in the mailroom since late August 2023.

Curiosity piqued, I rushed downstairs to retrieve this 22lb mystery box. What on earth could it be? And how had I forgotten about it? Naturally, I had to open it right there in the lobby. Inside were two six-packs of paper towels and 24 mega rolls of toilet paper! We all had a good laugh, and I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me.

Thanks, Past Keita! Present-day Keita was running dangerously low on these essentials. Great job! While this is a trivial example, it’s a perfect reminder to thank ourselves for our past foresight and hard work.

Today, I encourage you to find gratitude in the day-to-day and the mundane:

  • Today’s challenges are tomorrow’s triumphs: While it might feel uncomfortable and unsettling now, today’s challenges are preparing you for future victories. Embrace the gratitude in these moments.
  • Savor the surprises: Last year’s paper towel and toilet paper order was a delightful surprise that brightened my day. Be grateful for the small, magical moments.
  • Consistency and discipline for the unseen: Especially for my entrepreneurs, remember that our businesses are often 90-180 days ahead of us. Many times, we’re working without seeing even the smallest shift. Gratitude for the process is crucial.

Take a few minutes to think about the following prompts and jot down your thoughts. This exercise will help you cultivate gratitude for your future self and set the stage for your success.

1.????? Look Back: Think about a time in the past when you took action that benefited you later. What did you do, and how did it help you? Write down one specific example.

2.????? Look Ahead: Imagine it’s December 2024. What actions could you take now that your future self will thank you for? List three specific steps you can take in the next month to move towards your goals.

3.????? Daily Gratitude: Identify one small, daily habit you can start today that will benefit your future self. It could be anything from setting aside 10 minutes for planning your day to taking a short walk to clear your mind.

Congratulations on your momentum and your big wins! I completely understand your feelings. The last few years have been a rollercoaster for entrepreneurs. When you catch yourself feeling that tug of worry, take a gratitude break. What you are experiencing now is the culmination of months and years of hard work. Be thankful for the present and celebrate your success.

However, if these feelings become overwhelming and you notice signs of self-sabotage, it might be helpful to seek professional mental health support. For now, relish your achievements and trust in the foundation you've built. Your future self will thank you for both the hard work and the joy you allowed yourself to experience.
