Thanks MOIA - All the best for the future!

Yesterday was one of those days in my life where a big smile was mixed with a couple of tear drops. After four years I left the board of MOIA and it kind of felt like taking your daughter to the wedding and handing her over into the hands of someone else.

This journey started about five years ago in a meeting room at the Hannover airport. Robert Henrich, Ole Harms and myself discussed for hours about the future of sustainable people mobility in urban areas concluding that ride pooling with special purpose electric vans will probably become the one business model winning the hearts of its customers while reducing congestion on our roads.

Today, MOIA is one of the largest electric ride pooling service on this planet with more than 500 MOIA vans in operation, more than 1,000 people operating and continuously improving this service. The ratings in the Apple and Androids stores are excellent. We have completed more than 2.5m rides by now and customer satisfaction is huge. And more is to come.

To me, MOIA is a great example that Volkswagen and Large German Corporates are capable of disruptive innovation – by hiring the right leaders and establishing a governance which protects these start-ups from less useful corporate rules and systems. As Chairman of this fantastic company it was pure joy supporting, protecting and challenging this great team taking a bold idea to become reality.
