T.H.A.N.K.S. for the Feedback

T.H.A.N.K.S. for the Feedback

View my 9th Annual Appalachian Safety Summit presentation here:

We’ve designed a T.H.A.N.K.S. feedback process over the decades to:

a) Put workers at-ease so they are willing to openly discuss barriers to their safety;

b) Engage the worker to talk through a problem so solutions will continue into the future when they are back on task;

c) Identify the hazards that tell the worker “now’s a good time to engage in safe behaviors” so they become discriminate stimuli guiding them when supervision is not around;

d) Delivering Actively Caring by showing concern;

e) Reinforcing workers up front for the safe behaviors they are already doing and for the ideas they come up with in the conversation;

and f) Create a learning moment in less than 5 minutes.

We have been using the THANKS conversation here at Burlington Industries for several months and have found it to make a huge impact on the direction our safety conversations proceed as well as developing needed improvements to our safety culture. Thank you Dr. Ludwig for all of your guidance and assistance.
