Thanks to all of my students and Washington College friends

I wanted to reach out to all of my current and past students, colleagues, friends, and other relationships of #WashingtonCollege’sBrownAdvisoryStudentManaged InvestmentFund to let you know that I have stepped down after 13 years at the end of the Spring 2024 semester.

First, I need to start with a big shout out to several of the people in my large Washington College family. Foremost, many thanks to Jon Price, his Dad, Jim Price, and the Price family for providing the funding to launch #WashingtonCollege’sBrownAdvisoryStudentManagementInvestmentProgram to develop an educational and experiential program for students to learn how to structure and manage a real investment portfolio. Jim Price would be very proud today to see the results of this educational experience and the career paths for many of our current students and alums. ?

Next, I would like to thank Professor Michael Harvey who encouraged me to get involved with the program and to introduce students to real market experiences and learning about opportunities and risk in the financial markets. Thanks also to Professors Susan Vowels, Caddie Putnam Rankin, Hui-Ju Tsai, and Maria Vich for their help and encouragement and support over the years to elevate this program to a very high level with all of the dedicated students who were happy to meet for an 8:00 AM class!

I would also like to thank former Presidents #MitchellReiss and #SheilaBair for their unwavering support and encouragement to get the students out of our classroom in Daly 108 and into the real world to make numerous treks that included visits to Wall Street firms as well as to Omaha for #BerkshireHathaway annual meetings along with an in person visit with Warren Buffett. And, a special thanks to President #MikeSosulski for his backing in getting the Bloomberg system for our students to use as they pursue? careers in the financial services industry and corporate world and for use in College research projects.?? Additionally, our annual travel schedule always included a Jon Price coordinated visit to #BrownAdvisory’s Baltimore headquarters for an intensive day of meetings and presentations.

In reality, my profound thanks go to all of the more than 150 students who have participated in the program. I think that I have learned as much about you and your thinking as you have learned about financial markets and how they work. Reflecting on the current Spring 2024 semester class, we had the highest level of student participation with 26 students. In addition, eight graduating seniors have job offers from firms that include JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, PNC Bank, T.Rowe Price, and Accenture. Words are unable to express my gratitude to each of you and wish all of you success. As I used to include in our class syllabus each semester, I said that an important ingredient was to have fun, and I hope that each of you did. All of the reading that we did and weekly class discussions that we had challenged each of you to provide knowledge, leadership, and motivation as you pursue your career path.

All of you taught me a lesson as well. Colleges and universities don’t achieve success because of the buildings or celebrity alums or endowment size but because of the dedicated faculty and students. The passion, enthusiasm, and dedication that each of you displayed showed me the leadership skills that you have developed for your successful career paths. You made our class a dynamic place to learn. The insightful discussions and questions and support for your fellow classmates has been a pleasure for me to witness. I was always proud to see your interactions in our discussions on portfolio positions and top financial news headlines as well as many Zoom calls and in person visits to companies that were current or potential holdings. It was also exciting to see your reactions on field trips to Boston, New York City, Omaha, or Baltimore that always got the creative juices flowing from each of you.

As stewards of part of the capital of Washington College’s endowment, each of you have contributed to strong performance results over the years. ??The original $500,000 has grown to a high-water mark of $1,770,000 at the end of March 2024. Thanks to each of you for contributing to our program during my last 13 years. You’ve earned my thanks for a job well done and letting me be part of your education.

Thank you for all you've done for our students. What a wonderfully rich opportunity to be introduced to such a real experience that undoubtably prepared them to launch into the world. Thank you for including and collaborating with the career center. You've been a great partner and friend. May your next chapter reward you as much as your previous chapters rewarded others. All the best to you.

Thank you simply doesn't cover it! The experience you provided with Brown Advisory is invaluable and served as a pillar in not just our financial education, but in our development as young professionals. Echoing Will's comment- your dedication and enthusiasm for the markets is just what the next generation financial professionals needed to learn from. Wishing you well.
