Be thankful with me

Be thankful with me

After the elections, when all the campaigning and doom-feeds suddenly stopped and I could think, I was able to attend several gatherings where practitioners and leaders in the energy and utilities sector shared their progress in meeting their energy transition goals for the year.

One was PG&E's Innovation Summit, showcasing big strides in our ability to get more renewable energy on the grid, modernize the distribution system, and care for customers more holistically with AI and automation.

Another was the E Source Utility Customer Research Consortium (UCRC) Annual Meeting, where utility executives (some who have been at this for decades) shared their solid, incremental progress toward clean energy transition and customer experience transformation.

And several others, with both sweeping stories and small starts.

These presentations and updates were prepared long before the elections, and the outcomes of local, state and national elections did not change what these leaders have committed to nor where they want to go.

We all have stories like this - where we are going to keep going forward with our careful plans, where we are finding the energy and the fuel to sprint when we need to, where we are patiently persevering even if headwinds arise.

I learned from the past year's election cycle that my curiosity is hungry; I don't know enough about what you all are doing in your corner of the world to engage move the energy transition forward. For this Re:Energize I am inviting you to respond in the comments with what, in my faith tradition, we call a testimony: a short message you can share to tell the rest of us about what good and noble work you're seeing, where you sit.

Whether you are young and just starting in your climate change career, or retired and still active for the cause; whether you're in a position to make policy, or you are a small but vital cog in a large bureaucratic system; please, tell us what you see, and give us energy for this journey.

No side trails, today, just some prompts you can muse on as you digest your turkey and stuffing:

  • We adjusted our net zero goals this past year because ...
  • This year my team made progress in ...
  • I met a climate warrior who inspired me in this way ...
  • I made [ this aspect of the clean energy transition ] more [affordable / accessible / appealing / adoptable ...]
  • I had this personal win that will fuel my work ...
  • We hit a major milestone, and we can all take heart in this metric ...

Take your time. Or not - if you're bursting with good news, you can instantly pepper me with it all. I look forward to many kernels of wisdom and joy. I hope it will be an avalanche of goodness in the end.

Grateful for the quiet resilience and bold innovation shaping our shared future—like PG&E bringing renewables to the grid and UCRC leaders proving steady progress matters. These efforts remind us the energy transition isn’t just technical; it’s deeply human, powered by care and persistence (and creativity). ???

I'm thankful for all the feedback I heard at a recent event - that my organization, the DLC, helps get more efficient, innovative lighting solutions in the market and helps utilities meet their energy savings goals. The LED revolution is responsible for over 1000 TWh of energy savings over the last decade, but now that the market has transformed, it's about advancing lighting controls and integration with other building systems. Thank you for the prompt, Sharon!

I’m incredibly thankful of being able to share my psychological knowledge and expertise with leaders and teams working on behalf of energy transition. I successfully supported cultivating a community across a multinational company, and running a successful program supporting people in becoming guides for guide. I’m thrilled to be working with a new literary agent and to be focused on getting my book out. ??
