Thank you for your time.
Please note, this is not a forward. Reason for this post being, I just thought, just in case, it may help at least one person out there. There is absolutely no intention of pointing my fingers at anyone as I know, you all are AWESOME.
Hey All,
Looking at my LinkedIn profile, you could guess that I have 14+ years of experience in Information Technology. It would be false statement, if I say: I have achieved all these without the help from our amazing software community.
Just like many other amazing things/innovations in this world, software industry has evolved a lot, to such an extent that almost everything has become software driven. Imagine driving a car, few years back, all manual. You press the clutch, change the gear, accelerate, make sure you steer it properly and brake when necessary. Look at it now, we can’t even compare.
This is just one example, there are millions out there. Sometimes, I feel extremely happy for being part of this family, which made so many things possible. In my opinion (and with my limited knowledge), this community’s commitment, culture, honesty, passion and being thankful has helped reach all the peaks the software industry has achieved so far.
It is fine to reach out for help. In this community, thankfully, most of us are more than happy to help others. However, after you have reached out to someone for help, what have you done next?
My simplest and first assumption is: Whether it resolved your problem or not, You have said, “Thank you very much for your time and help”. If not, I would like you to think again. Whatever the profession, end of the day, we all are humans, and we do like a small “Thank You” when we help (or try to) someone. No matter, what our designation is, or our role is, thanking someone for their time wouldn’t do much harm to us.
Also, please note, not always a person may be able to offer help. It could be due to various reasons, the other person is in some important meeting, have some personal issues or something else.
That doesn’t mean, you are left alone and not being helped. When asking for help, kindly consider the other person’s situation as well, never come to conclusion quickly.
Remember, there are millions of people in our industry, who are putting lots of efforts, sacrificing their personal time and many other compromises so that they can deliver open source assets, answering to questions/ queries on various community forums, sharing their wonderful thoughts, best practices, snippets, tips and tricks and much more.
In short, always be thankful and have a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.
PS: Thank you so much for your time and your thoughts would be happily appreciated.
Have I brought any inconvenience due to this post, you can happily dislike the post.
