Just a quick note to say a big thank you to everyone who has wished me a happy work anniversary. After owning my own business for 20+ years, working for a powerhouse global company like IAG never crossed my mind. However it has given me a great opportunity to extend on my existing experience in the industry and has allowed me to make MY MARK and implement some positive changes at IAG. I feel confident that I will leave a legacy behind – for those who would like to know more I’d be happy to catch up to talk about my journey from a business owner to a decision maker at a global company. I can honestly say that joining IAG and working with Australia’s most loved insurer was one of the best decisions of my life. I STILL enjoy working with my team (as well as approx 35+ field technicians across Australia who report to me) and we have gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the Australia’s biggest Electronic Security companies in the residential market! And lookout as I’m just about to rev up the commercial market soon.
I’m glad LinkedIn keeps track of these anniversaries, because otherwise this would have passed me by. As odd as the feature is, it’s lovely to see colleagues acknowledge your commitment and achievements. Making a living is hard and we all deserve a bit of love now and then, even if it is just liking an update or a new success achieved.
This got me thinking about what work anniversaries mean to us. Are they a time to take stock or just another “meh” moment in your career calendar? Either way, work anniversaries are a milestone – an achievement, a time to identify opportunities and possibly plan your next move taking you to the next level.
It’s important to note how far you have come in order to appreciate your career trajectory.
While I’m still extremely ambitious and passionate about my job, I have learned that understanding the value of relationships will get you further than willpower in life alone. Willpower is finite, but there are an infinite number of relationships you can build to help deliver a vision. It’s tough working with others, but the best outcomes are made possible through close collaboration and making trusted contacts.
Whether you think that LinkedIn’s work anniversary is a gimmick or something more useful, a year in any job is an important milestone in your calendar. A natural time to pause, reflect and consider your trajectory and position how you can further excel and make a difference showing more successes.
I enjoy working with my clients (both internal and external) and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I would love to work with anyone in the market who is looking for a genuine contact to add to their team. Whoever has worked with me from the other side of the fence within “Electronic Security” as well as “Investigations & / or Mercantile Work” really know how I move and shake - being results driven and passionate on making a difference.
Thanks again for helping me to be successful and allowing me the platform to share some words of wisdom that may help someone else out there to be the best they can be, and also setting them up for success !! :)
Thank you.
