Thank you, Thomas, for being my engine.
"What is it?" A 2nd-grade student asked me (to protect his privacy, we will call him Thomas). "I am building a tunnel, and magically, every word in Hebrew that goes into the tunnel will come out as the opposite word. Can I help?" He asked. "Sure", I told him. Together, we arranged the track, the tunnel, and the cards with the words on the table in the school hallway. The first time the train made a full round, Thomas didn't understand how the word was replaced with its opposite and looked under the table. I explained to him that the train goes in one direction, and after the tunnel, it goes in the other direction. That's how we see a different side of the card each time. In the following days, during all the breaks and at every possible moment, Thomas stood at the table with the train and enthusiastically explained to all the children in school how to start the train, change cards, and make the magic happen. The students didn't even feel that they were learning Hebrew at all. "Thank you, Thomas, for being my engine." #endlesswaystoteach#?
