Thank you for replying!!!

Imagine the world before internet and how people would look for a job, I still remember the old days when people used to go around dropping resumes to each potential employer; calling companies and getting in touch with HR, or relaxed on weekend searching classified.  Those days people where thinking “it is so hard to connect with employers”, “Where are the vacancies”;  “will they take few second to review my resume before it goes to incoming”, people would just hope employers take few seconds to look over the resume and maybe I would get a job.

Today we have gone by far ahead in every aspect in our life, internet made the world accessible at finger tips, everything is searchable, doable and there is someone somewhere in this world who will share with you same interests or needs.  The age of internet changed earth face, with such connectivity!! Everyone thought it is the door to openness and clarity, specially connecting with potential employers and companies.  Since 1995 to 2015 enhancement and progress of technology attracted everyone to participate, whether you are a student, researcher, candidate, employer, recruiter, artist..etc the whole world.  GUESS WHAT… this doesn’t help you get connected to your future employer, cause he still cannot see your resume for those few seconds.

With such massive, complex and diverse people new ways became available for those who want to make money, either through you “Candidate” or you “Employer”, the chance of a few seconds opportunity of resume review is not happening; on top instead of having to drive around dropping  resume at companies door step (you cannot do this now “some people do”), today you need to go through agents, recruiters, filling thousands of online databases in various websites just to get a chance that maybe someone on the other end of the line is making some efforts to review all the in-comings.

Why are you doing, the jobs might not be real “What kind of recruiter is it”, position maybe hired through different channel and all online application are JUST THERE, how can you make a choice about where and how… Do you actually have options, everyone one is fishing here!!

(Recruiter no offence – you are doing great! With the flood of data you are processing every second).

Nevertheless, candidates! Be aware that you need more than just efforts to get your few second window of resume review for a might be  job, you need to pass couple of barriers to get through; Let me list some steps;

1 – Get your resume ready, it should be done in a scientific way (“read the book Knock’em Dead by Martin Yate, CPC “New York best seller 2013”), a resume that pops out of the screen.

2- Make your resume ready for x-numbers of copy and paste (a TXT format) make it easy for those cv builders.

3- Be everywhere with all the social media

LinkedIn - Weebly “Create your own website for free”

Facebook - Twitter

Google + - Create your own site

About-me - Use brand yourself + (lot of other things…………..)

4- Make sure you keep track of all update so you get the chance to apply “within time frame sometime”.

5 – Use Elevator Pitch style.

6- Apply directly to companies’ website…. If they actually post everything they have and you get the chance to fill it correctly; big companies have their own talent management system, other med size to small companies started to use data management system so they reduce the cost of recruitment with online solution, I have tried different online sites; most are associated with your LinkedIn profile… Oops don’t jump to conclusion just read the next line.

The moment I see LinkedIn’s icon, I feel “Ouch” this is any easy one to fill and sparked my engine to do it now, sadly when I hit continue; I found out it is just the heading and you need to copy paste everything once again, you think at one point why the hell I’m doing this for the x-time can’t we have just one database for everybody…. I guess not! Otherwise we will live happily ever after.

8- Track what username and password you’ve used and which websites you have registered to avoid more unnecessary copy, paste work.

After trying these steps, SIT TIGHT IT’S COMING, your job will come walking to you, you have applied all logical steps recommended by recruiters, you read all books and articles by influencers, so no worries make yourself busy “checking your mailbox” waiting to see a popping email or a phone call for an interview; be patient you don’t know how long you should wait or how many times you should apply for these job board sites (some of these sites gives you fake hopes by keep accepting your application over and over).

In this process you will get used to auto notification generated thanking you for applying and confirming receiving your resume or upload, get your thumb trained to slide it left for delete; cause this note has nothing to do with any confirmation, don’t get your inbox full of these robotic messages.  The most important DO NOT get disappointed or frustrated it is technology in action “mechanical reply without any interaction” no one has time to reply if not worth the money”.

A great hope you shouldn’t let go without update is (LinkedIn) a gigantic networking tool, with many applications you can play with (Connected, Pulse, LinkedIn Jobs), I wonder how it actually works!! Happy to see that they are connected, last I remember after 60+ application not a single reply; moreover every job posted has a different way of applying; oh you can apply with your LinkedIn profile, hmmm but also when you do! You can attach your resume “sometime”; it’s becoming confusing!! Though I love it, they still remember what job you applied for with a nice off-white so you don’t apply twice and a message at the top telling you when you applied wishing you luck.

GulfTalents, Goto gulf, nukirjob, hospitality biz, hays, indeed…etc my God more than what I can remember just fill-in your data and start applying, few web pages like Michael page, charter house or minds field although they are easy to apply only name, email and resume, you may get a response at about your application status if worthy replying, remember to send “Thank you for replying”!!

I think job seekers have an issue here, how are we actually going to land on job; the conclusion from my point of view, it is simply like fishing; you need to understand the rules of the game, if you are going to fish you need to have a nice boat that you can sit and relax on (your resume), get your equipment ready for the size of fish you want fish for (Choose your tools “review section 2 in this article”) and then go to where the fishes are (keep checking update), put the right bait (use Elevator Pitch), eventually you might land on job.

I guess you would agree with me it’s a calculated luck.

Wish I read the post earlier...maybe I would have lessened the waiting period. But one thing I think I could identity is enhancing my profile. It works!

I started out before the tech times. We had to stand out. So we were professional and creative. If I had one piece of advice I would urge you to target your resume to the job. Be brief. Get straight to the point. Network. And never give up!

A simple truth about what kind of challenges all job seekers either (Starters or experienced) are facing everyday - sometime technology works.... in the opposite directions.
