Thank you pro-Hamas/Palestinian protesters
Some of you might be wondering why I would thank those that are protesting in? support of Hamas and the Palestinians.??
?
Good question.??
?
Here’s my answer. ?
?
The calculated mass murder, inhumane brutality and vicious crimes that Hamas perpetrated on?October 7 (IMO) created 3 distinct populations of people in the world.
?
The first?population:?
The first?population?are the pro-Hamas/Palestinian protesters?who?believe that whatever Hamas did was?justified, even necessary, to advance its cause. Within this population, there are those that are dogmatic and fervently in support of what Hamas did. There are those that disagree with how Hamas exercised its powers, but sympathize with their plight and will provide lengthy justifications based on ‘their version’ of the history of Israel. There are those that are fearful of?Hamas. What brings all of these people together is their uniform public support for?Hamas.
?
The second population:?
The second population?are Jewish people or Israelis or non-Jews that recognize what actually happened on, and after, October 7 as being an act of depravity, a pre-meditated mass murder, and the rape, assault and abduction?of innocent? people for one sole reason - they were Jewish.??
?
The third?population:?
The third population?is the largest of all 3. Before?October 7, this group had no past predisposition, political affiliation or much insight into the history of the State of Israel or the?Palestinian peoples. They watched what happened on October 7 but, more critically, they have been watching what has happened in their own communities and worldwide everyday since October 7, including incessant rallies, protesters clashing with police, raids on malls and restaurants, pro-Hamas protesters scaling Christmas trees in the USA and draping them in the Palestinian flag, Jewish university students afraid to walk to class, large-scale antisemitism and the many many death threats to their Jewish neighbours in every city, including Toronto where I live.
The first population will not change their mind?under any circumstance. To them, Jews, and the Government of Israel, are criminal and, the corollary, Palestinians? are innocent victims. To them, the solution is to kill all the Jews in the world, or at least the ones who live in Israel. These protesters are unequivocal in their demand - they want the?permanent execution and extinction of the Jewish world?(“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”)?and to turn over the land of Israel to the?Palestinians.?
There is absolutely no point engaging in any dialogue with this group, at least until they are open to being schooled in the truth, accurately informed and objectively?educated.?
At present,?they are deliberately misinformed, unconsciously ignorant and sadly lacking a?moral compass.?
I sympathize with the third?population. They are unclear of the truth, confused by the propaganda and innocently uninformed, no different than my limited knowledge of the history of Darfur, Bosnia-Herzegovina or the Houthis.
In political terms, the third?population?would be called the “undecided’s”.?
Before October 7, they?were uninterested in the history of the Middle East and, if given the option, not interested in becoming embroiled in this?political debate. However,?this population has?been involuntarily forced to watch the first?population?make lots of noise, block their intersections, fight with police, get arrested and pressure lawmakers.
The?third?population does not understand why there is this much?mayhem for a conflict between two peoples, in a very different part of the world, far away from their home.?And so this third?population?is naturally confused by the mixed messages.
The good news is that this third?population?is the group that will vote in their community’s elections and decide who will hold political office. (1)
Nobody wants to be taken for a fool, and nobody wants to give power to someone who is a fool. So I am confident that this third population will not?be fooled by the?first population, just because they make the?most noise.?
I am certain that they will aim to uncover the truth as to what happened on and, more importantly, after October 7.?
As a proponent of social justice, I have optimism, trust and hope that this third population?(the largest number of?people throughout the world) will arrive at the inescapable and simple conclusion that, on October 7, 2023, a group of terrorists breached an international border, bearing street-level weapons, raped young girls, mutilated children, assaulted innocent?music-concert fans, burnt down homes with families inside, dropped bombs on people squished together and hiding in bomb shelters, abducted?innocent children, seniors and teenagers, and murdered as many innocent Jews in cold blood as possible.?
There is ONLY ONE TRUTH.?
Unvarnished and raw.?

No “but…”.?
No explanation.?
No justification.?
No contextualization.
This third population will know that those who committed the heinous crimes on?October 7, and especially those that supported them afterwards, are not people that they will:
-befriend
-purchase from
-donate to
-provide support for
-volunteer for
-invite to their events
-teach
-sponsor
-vote for (1)
-mentor?(2)
-employ?(2)
This third population will understand that those that committed the atrocities on October 7 should be prosecuted and sentenced, even if that involves the death penalty.
This third population will understand that those who supported and protested for Hamas after October 7 had another option (indeed a human duty) - to denounce what Hamas did, demand its immediate surrender (so as to install a new democratically elected government for the Palestinian people),?express unwavering sympathy to the Israeli victims,?use all of their political resources and pressure to free the hostages and?demand that Hamas be removed, just the same as Hosni Mubarak (Egypt), Hafaz Assad (Syria), Muammar Gaddafi (Libya), Saddam Hussein (Iraq) and Osama Bin Laden (ISIS).
Why would they do that?
Answer: So that the innocent Palestinians would have a safe and secure home and could live peacefully alongside Israel.
This third population will understand that those who protested for Hamas after October 7 failed that most basic human and moral duty.
I have no doubt that the?third population will?know that the first?population?were fanatics and?will seek to criminalize the?first group and sympathize with the second?population.
I have faith in humanity, ethics and justice.
So thank you to the pro-Palestinian protesters who have made so much noise in the last 2 months, causing the?third population?to be curious, engaged and hungry to discover the truth.

(1) The 74 TMU law students who were signatories to the letter after October 7 questioning the legitimacy of Israel?(their exact words called Israel a “brand of a settler colony”)?should consider a change in academic program as they will not be able to secure articles of clerkship or employment in Canada. Their names are known, from Bay Street in Toronto to W. Georgia Street in Vancouver. Law firms do not mentor antisemitic hate protagonists (their letter?explained that the Hamas attack was “a direct result of Israel’s 75-year-long systematic campaign to eradicate Palestinians”);?and Hamas does not accept articling students.
(2) Justin Trudeau’s ethical ambiguity, moral weakness and political pandering has cost the federal Liberals to not hold office for the foreseeable future, come the next election. He had (and lost) the opportunity to demonstrate to Canadians and the UN that humanity, morality and democracy exceed political profits.?Same for the NDP.? Just as Hamas recently sent its message of gratitude to?Justin Trudeau for supporting them at the UN, so too?Pierre Poilievre is grateful to?Justin Trudeau for gift-wrapping and hand-delivering to him the PMO.? Justin Trudeau definitely won the votes of?the first?population, but his moral failings cost his party the votes from the?second and?third population - who will not elect a?federal Liberal candidate for decades.?
In these challenging times, it is crucial to remember the power of hope and resilience. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said - Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Let's spread more light and love in the world. ???? #Peace #hopeinaction

10 个月A thoughtful article, but from my conversations with several of those in the third group, and from my reading of what they post, I find I am unable to share your optimism. The DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) philosophy infiltrated our universities years ago and is the root of what we have been seen on college and university campuses worldwide-wide. There’s already a very large cohort of graduates from schools where this philosophy has been amplified so we’re not just talking about those under 24-it may have been instrumental in forming attitudes of graduate already 40. And then there are the acedemics and teaching staff, who are sowing these seeds. That’s a lot of people to win over, particularly as they, like us, have formed their own echo chamber here, on Instagram, and most dangerously, on TIK TOK. From time to time, I dip a toe into what they’re reading in order to inform myself of what we are facing and I’m not seeing any shift in their loyalties. So, while I hope you’re right, unless it’s a very long end game and this group suddenly snaps out of it, they will not be joining our echo chamber. But I guess we shall see.
