Thank You Post Interview Tips/Sample

Thank You Post Interview Tips/Sample

If you haven't been sending a thank you to the folks you have interviewed with, you have not been setting yourself up for success.

When you complete a phone OR in-person interview, you should always send a thank you email within 24 hours. Be sure you get all interviewees email addresses. Writing a thank-you note improves your chances of making an impact. It can contribute to the hiring manager’s impression of you while you are still fresh in their mind. And because most candidates don’t bother sending well-written thank-you’s, your chances of standing out increases!

  • Start planning your thank-you note during the interview. Take notes on important topics you covered during the interview, any specific things that makes their brand stand out over its competitors, and the skill sets they put emphasis on. Show them you were paying attention in the interview and state how you can help them.
  • Use this as an opportunity to reinforce your interest. They’re looking for that extra effort you’re putting in. A great note should include what you can offer in addition to what was discussed.
  • Incorporate something unique into your thank you note. Authenticity and personalization is key to writing successful thank-you notes. You could address a concern the interviewer may have brought up during the interview. The point is to make your note sound as natural and honest as possible. Thank them for their time. Indicate that after hearing more about the opportunity you are interested in moving forward in their process. Give 3-4 bullets reiterating why you are a fit for the position based on the description and the needs they expressed in the interview. Let them know you will follow up in a few days to a week on next steps.
  • To email or send a handwritten note? Dropping a thank-you email within 24 hours of the interview is mandatory. An email note will be received much quicker than a handwritten.
