Thank you to my mom.

Thank you to my mom.

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of my mother's passing. It's my self-declared day of reflection. I look back on the lessons I learned, good and bad. My mother was strict and hard on me in many ways. She taught me many things, including (and of course not limited to) - work hard, study, practice, responsibility, how to make ratatouille and life isn't fair. The emotions around any loss can be harnessed as a tool for introspection. I use this to reflect on not only my personal, but professional life. I'm always fine tuning myself and still have more to do, but often will ask myself: 1) Would my mother be proud of me? 2) Am I proud of me? While there is still more I want to accomplish I'm proud of the work I do at Healthcare Fraud Shield and I know she would be too. For anyone that has lost a mother, I highly recommend reading Hope Edelman's book Motherless Daughters. Here is a partial quote of something that rings true to me: “ “I truly believe that the death of my mother has made me the way I am today. I am a survivor, mentally strong, determined, strong-willed, self-reliant, and independent....." ― Hope Edelman, Motherless Daughters: The Legacy of Loss
