Thank You for Making the 2nd Annual Sickle Cell Summit a Success!

On behalf of the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO), and the SCAGO Board of Directors, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all attendees, presenters, panelists, partners- and particularly our patients and caregivers who attended and had the courage to share their experiences and stories.?

The theme of this year’s 2nd Annual Sickle Cell Summit held this past November 4 & 5th 2022 was “Delivering Equity in Sickle Cell Disease: Lessons from the Pandemic.”?We are amidst a new era as it relates to advancements in the standard of care and treatments for sickle cell disease (SCD).??Every day we see or hear about a new milestone towards improving outcomes in our SCD community; we know that our patient's and caregivers’ voices have been heard and amplified.?We also know that many of these successes could not be possible without collaboration and partnerships, volunteers within our community, and coming together to learn about these advancements and share our knowledge.?However, we also know that there continue to be challenges – and we must continue our efforts together to address equity gaps in care for those living with, and impacted by, this devastating disease.?These challenges have also been amplified in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic.?

We hope you all have been inspired, in some way, by this summit and continue your efforts every day toward our shared mission of reducing the incidence of new sickle cell births and improving the quality of life of individuals and families living with SCD.
