THANK YOU Letters Made Easy
An important part of the interviewing process is following up with a Thank You letter or email. In the past this meant a hardcopy letter sent snail mail. Now this can be done with an attachment to an email or the body of an email. The key is to make sure you take notes during your interview and identify some pain points the interviewers are having and hoping to solve if they hire you. Let’s keep this very simple and to the point when sending a Thank You letter. Keep it to 3 paragraphs and focus on the following.
?
Paragraph #1
Thank the interview team for their time and consideration. 2 to 3 sentences can suffice but let them know you appreciate them taking the time to interview with you.
?
Paragraph #2
This is the part where you show that you heard what the team needs to have out of this position. Identify a pain point or a need they mentioned during the interview and repeat it. Then discuss transferrable experience and how you were able to navigate such issues in the past and how you could do that for the team if you get this new position. Paragraph 2 is where you show listening skills, ability to fix issues and that you have the skills the team is looking for.

Paragraph #3
Close the Thank You letter out by expressing interest in the role and the company. Express that you are looking forward to next steps.

Make sure the note is done in business letter format if sent as an attachment. If in the body of an email – make sure everything looks professional and that you check all grammar and spelling. Over the last 24 years I have seen offers taken off the table due to poor writing skills and attention to detail. Often, a good Thank You letter will differentiate a candidate from the pack.
