The School of Agriculture at WIU is always looking for ways to improve the student educational experience as well as ways to reduce feed costs. Last week, a new (new to us) vertical mixer arrived at the university farm ready for action. Thanks to the Illinois Farm Bureau for their financial support in purchasing this new piece of feeding equipment this year. The new vertical mixer will assist farm staff and student workers in feeding hay and silage at the university farm to the beef herd with minimal waste. I also want to give a shout out to John Crumbaugh, Hayden Geisler, and Gregg Zurliene of Sydenstricker Noble Partners for finding and refurbishing the mixer to meet our feeding needs at the university farm. It is a Great Day to be a Leatherneck!
