Thank You Hurricane Shelter Workers
Lots of people are getting well-deserved accolades during the past two weeks for their heroic efforts in the midst of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Their willingness to walk toward danger in attempts to rescue persons stranded by wind and high water is a true testament to the goodness of the human spirit.
There remains however a contingent of persons who also deserve our recognition. And so because I know how much recognition and "thank you" can mean to a person, we are dedicating this to the work being done by the people who are staffing the temporary shelters set up to assist those who are homeless because of the hurricanes. Their ability to work long, hard hours with totally stressed out victims who assume that they will get help immediately, reminds us that being a leader is difficult. It often means long hours and personal sacrifice. It means being patient when you don 't have miuch patience. It means helping people find a cot to sleep on and making sure the coffee is on for the early risers. It means asking lots of questions and filling out mountains of paperwork when what people want is a safe place to live.
Shelter workers, we hope you are having a good day. We hope that soon you will be relieved and have an opportunity to regain your strength. We wish you well. You deserve our thanks.
