Thank You, Housekeepers.
Jim Connelly
President, U.S. Eastern Region, Full Service MxM - Marriott International
At Marriott, our housekeepers truly make our hotels shine.
Housekeeping is one of the most vital roles within the operation, though it is often the least visible. If you speak to our associates, they will likely say housekeeping is one of the most difficult — yet most rewarding — positions at our hotels. An incredible amount of patience, skill, and attention to detail goes into preparing spaces for our guests.
Now more than ever, cleanliness is top of mind. Over the past few years, our housekeepers have stepped up to new challenges and readily embraced Marriott’s Commitment to Clean, all while enlivening our company’s Core Values.
The passion from these associates is truly what sets Marriott apart. Here, housekeeping is more than simply delivering a clean room. It is providing personal touches, curating surprise-and-delight moments, and creating memories with our valued guests.
This year, in celebration of International Housekeeping Week, I would like to highlight some of our star associates from our Eastern Region hotels.

How did you get started with Marriott?
I started with Marriott in 1974.?My first chapter was as a housekeeper and that was really a workout.?From there I moved to a Concierge VIP, and I loved that I got to see Marriott repeat guests. I was able to help [with] whatever what they needed and [that is when] I decided Marriott is a great place to work.
What do you love most about your role??
My role as a main linen room attendant is very rewarding. I get to meet and greet new and [tenured] employees the Marriott way — with love and respect.
What is your favorite memory at the New Orleans Marriott?
That is hard, as there are so many good things that Marriott does to show appreciation to employees and how they care about us and take care of our needs.?At the New Orleans Marriott, we are truly Marriott strong, and after 48 years, I am so proud to work for this great company.

How did you get started with Marriott?
I had a friend who worked for Marriott, and I was looking for a job after my kids went to school full-time. I asked her about the job, and she told me to come and apply. I did and I got hired. I have been here for 24 years and 3 months.
What do you love most about your role?
I love the people. There are a lot of good people here and I brag about Marriott to everybody because of the stuff the hotel does for us, especially during COVID, when the hotel did the food bank. A lot of people really needed it, and it helped a lot. Many people were in tough situations and it was really appreciated.
What is your favorite memory at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown?
The time I met Christopher Reeves. I went to a suite to clean and drop stuff off and he was there in a wheelchair and his eyes lit up! I also met [another celebrity]; he sat at the desk and he and I talked as I did the room. He stated, “I never knew all the work that you do as a housekeeper.” We had a great conversation. Those experiences were memorable.

What do you love most about your role??
I love the fact that I can be independent. I love cleaning and making sure my guests feel happy. I like that I am free to clean my rooms [without interruption]. I love being in the room so I can sing. I enjoy singing. When I sing, I feel happy and satisfied.
What is your favorite memory at the Orlando World Center Marriott??
I love watching my leaders get down with the dancing. I don’t dance, but when others do, it makes me happy. It is fun to see everyone dance. Those are my favorite moments…I love working at [the Orlando] World Center Marriott. I am about doing my work and going home and taking care of my family.

How did you get started with Marriott?
A friend told me that Marriott was hiring, so I came up one day and applied and got hired on the spot. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
What do you love most about your role?
I love the people the most. It’s pretty much like a family. We spend most of our days together, so we have built bonds and relationships with each other over time. I absolutely love my coworkers.
What is your favorite memory at The Westin Peachtree Plaza?
My most favorite memory was when I got nominated for the Core Associate of the Quarter. I didn’t realize people noticed me. I usually just come in and do my job. I’ve never gotten nominated before, so to get that honor was truly shocking and fulfilling. The award ceremony was really nice, the meal was amazing, my manager said some incredible things about me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the event. It truly made me realize that I was appreciated as an associate.
