Thank You and Farewell, Uber! Love, Juge
To everyone who has taught me something here at Uber (every single person BCCed here… there are well over a hundred of you):
Thank you for the most enriching, enjoyable 3.5 years of my career. When I joined Uber, I was obviously thrilled -- it’s a dream job -- but at the time, I didn’t realize how lucky I was. I didn’t realize I’d be working with the smartest, most hardworking and inclusive people. In my days before Uber, I had my personal life and my professional life, and I was a pretty different person in each role. At Uber, though, everyone’s quirks are celebrated, the office is very diverse, and I was able to grow and thrive and become the woman I’m proud to be now.
Surely there were hard times. I was challenged with difficult feedback, or I hit my stride with one team and was pulled to support another because it was what the business needed. It was tough to start over again and rebuild the trust and rebuild teams from what seemed like scratch. There were reorgs. There were pie-in-the-sky hiring targets that seemed unreachable (but we reached them!) There were hiring pauses. I was told “change is the only constant at Uber” and it was so true. But all of these changes taught me how to be a resilient and way more well-rounded recruiter.
At one recent meeting, our director told us to “wait to worry” and it’s proven to be great advice. Uber moves at lightning speed, so sometimes announcements will seem daunting, but everything turns out to be OK. And I’m writing this letter in quarantine, a very worrisome time ;) But I know that everything will move forward (as Dara says, “onward”) and I’ll miss being a part of the rocketship when this Coronavirus era is over.
Anyway, I’ve gotten off on too many tangents. Time to get to the point. Thank you to the most incredible team. Thank you for cheering me on, for letting me run with projects or roles that seemed like too great a challenge. Thanks for believing in me and for teaching me how to adapt and thrive. Thanks for tie-dyeing baby onesies for Max. Thanks for sitting on the roof with me so we could keep our tans while building Linkedin projects. Thanks for coming to Margaridawgs, the clubby holiday party, and all the Medici events. Thanks for all the Zoom chats. And for coming to find me at offsites so we could finally meet in person. Thank you for the lofty goals that helped me grow. Thank you for being proud of me when I reached them.
I’ll always be Superpumped. I’ll always love you, Uber, Eats, Freight, U4B, etc! And even though I’m crying as I write this, it’s time to move on. I’m excited to be joining Slack’s amazing team, where I know I’ll continue to grow. I’ll still be in Chicago, so please keep in touch. I want to come visit the new office space when it’s all built out, too!
Love you all!
Onward,
Juge
