Thank You for Everything

For the past 20 years I have had the great honor to work with the world’s most passionate and exceptional people with the most meaningful of purposes.

Together, Intelexians have helped the world’s leading companies accomplish incredible things.

Using the Intelex Platform, companies around the world have reduced CO2 emissions by over 28 million tons per year, the equivalent of taking over 6 million cars off the road. To put this into context, Intelex customers have reduced more CO2 than the entire electric car industry combined (there are an estimated 5.1 million electric cars on the road globally today).

In addition to protecting our planet for future generations, Intelex has made work safer and more productive. Intelex’s customers have leveraged the Intelex Platform to avoid hundreds of thousands of safety incidents from occurring, resulting in saving tens of thousands of lives.

Though Intelex’s mission has been one of the most fulfilling purposes in my life, it has been the creation and growth of over a thousand jobs that has had the most immediate impact on me. Creating new career opportunities, and helping our colleagues provide for themselves and their love ones, is the most fundamental impact a startup can have. I’m extremely proud that Intelex has been able to have this impact throughout Canada, the US, Europe, the middle east and Australia, both through direct employment but also through partners, customers and adjacent opportunities created as a result of Intelex’s technology.

We're in the Best Position We've Ever Been

Intelex is now in the strongest position it has ever been in. Our market, the EHSQ market, has become the multi-billion dollar SAAS category we worked so hard to create. Intelex has established itself as the EHSQ leader with a product, customer base, reputation and momentum unparalleled in our space. We have found our “forever home” in Fortive and Industrial Scientific, providing us the financial and strategic backing to dig in, roll-up and truly dominate this market. We have a product that has the most comprehensive and robust set of capabilities of any in EHSQ, and a roadmap that will differentiate us like no other vendor. We have the largest and best retained customer base in EHSQ. We are the envy of the EHSQ ecosystem, so much so that every company in our space is trying to figure out how they can either emulate us, recruit from us, partner with us, or, as seems to be the growing desire, be acquired by us.

All of this has only been made possible because of an incredible group of people called Intelexians.

Intelex’s maturation over the past 20 years was the result of combining an incredible team with an incredible culture driven by an incredible purpose.

At every level of our organization we have people with unparalleled depth of expertise, world class EHSQ domain knowledge, cutting edge technical capabilities, and, most importantly, the highest standard of integrity and values of any team I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t be more proud to be part of an organization that is made of, and made by, such great people.

We have put ourselves in an incredible position, without question the best position we’ve ever been in. We are healthy, both financially and operationally, and have incredible alignment of expectations between management and ownership. Our outlook looks phenomenal, we forecast to grow more over the next 5 years than in our past 5 years, both financially and in our ability to deliver value to our customers. Most importantly, we expect the next 5 years to provide significantly more value to our customers, and career growth for our staff, both in skills development, product advancement and opportunity to achieve increased financial success.

In short, the future is so bright we gotta wear shades (preferably Intelex shades).

I am so happy. And I am so proud.

Working with Intelex to get to this position has been the primary focus of my life over the past 21 years.

7,518 days. Over 60,000 working hours. More than 135,000 hours of thought. 21 of my 42 years.

And I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished. Intelex has made me the person I am today and is the source of just about everything I hold dear in my life, including my wife (Jade) and sons (Brayden and Luca). I’ve had the chance to build amazing friendships, have incredible experiences, challenge myself in ways I could never imagine and be a part of a team that accomplished more than I could have ever thought possible. Being part of Intelex, and making Intelex an inextricable part of my identity, has been the most formative, fulfilling and rewarding experience of my life.

And now, having spent 21 of my 42 years at Intelex, and…

• knowing Intelex is in the BEST POSITION it’s ever been in
• having complete confidence in our management team, our ownership group, our product, our market position, and most importantly, our employee base
• knowing that all our stakeholders have been taken care of
• knowing our customers are being taken care of and are in good hands
• knowing our shareholders and owners have been taken care of
• and most importantly, knowing our employees are positioned for success and growth with Fortive…

It is now time to for me to explore my life beyond Intelex. To spend time with my family and friends and explore new interests and hobbies. To give back to the world in new and other ways. To find out what the second half of my life has in store for me.

It is now time for me to pass the Intelex torch on to a new leader.

As of Thursday, November 28th, I have stepped down from my role at Intelex and have passed the torch to Justin McElhattan, who will assume the role of President of Intelex. Justin is a fantastic leader who is perfectly positioned to lead this company. He has phenomenal business acumen, great context in EHSQ, exceptional experience with FBS and limitless passion for our mission and purpose. Most importantly, Justin is a good person, with extremely high integrity and high values that will be a perfect fit with the Intelex we all know and love.

As for me… I’m going to take a break for a while and get some rest and relaxation, but I’m not going to disappear. I’d like to spend time with local companies and “tech folk” to help share what we learned and help encourage more success stories for Canadian tech. And I’m going to spend a lot of time helping outside of tech as well.

Most importantly, I’m going to take some time to focus on some things that get neglected in the fast-paced world of tech… my wife, my boys, my fitness, achieving some life balance and picking up a hobby or two for a little while. I’m super excited! ??

I won’t stay on the sidelines for long. I’m excited for when I get back in the game ... and when I do I’ll be as ambitious and purpose driven as ever. Stay tuned!

Thank You

Although it is bittersweet to be parting ways with my dearly beloved Intelex, I cannot imagine any way my journey could be more complete, or any moment better for me or for the company to move to the next phase. I am excited for both of us (me and Intelex), to see how we grow in this next new phase of our lives!

Thank you to everyone, customers, partners, the Canadian tech ecosystem, Intelex’s investors and backers, and most importantly, all of our Intelexian colleagues, both current and former, for everything you’ve done all these years.

The impact you made on my life cannot be described and I will forever be grateful.
