Durham University is widely known in the UK as an excellent university but has struggled to gain similar recognition internationally. Some have said that it lacks the famous sports teams of Liverpool or Manchester or a beer like Newcastle Brown. 

In the US, it is often confused with Durham, North Carolina, where you can find Duke University and the University of North Carolina.

Dominic Cummings has come to the rescue and quite literally put Durham on the map.

Now people around the world know it is 260 miles from London and has beautiful spots like Barnard Castle in close reach.

The continued defence of Cummings by Boris Johnson and his cabinet may undermine public health messaging but has continued to keep Durham in the spotlight internationally.

If international student numbers fall in the coming academic year Durham University faces a huge financial challenge. Hopefully the actions of Dominic Cummings will continue to raise its profile across the world. Thank you!
