Securityplus Federal Credit Union named William “Bill” Kennedy as its chief financial officer, overseeing finance and accounting.

Kennedy started his career in the credit union industry as CFO with the Department of Justice Federal Credit Union. With more than 30 years of industry experience, he has held leadership positions at credit unions in Virginia, Florida, New Jersey, South Carolina, and most recently as president/CEO of the HUD Federal Credit Union in Washington.

Kennedy has also served on several boards including the CUNA CFO Executive Board, the New Jersey Credit Union Board and the Maryland | DC Credit Union Association Board. In addition, his passion in promoting the credit union movement has led Kennedy to establish management-training programs while serving on college faculty staff, giving him the opportunity to mentor more than 75 college interns and recent graduates.

Kennedy’s recognition's include receiving NAFCU’s Professional CEO of the Year Award, the Judith A. Burgin Memorial Credit Union Professional of the Year Award and most recently, Credit Union Magazine’s 2019 Credit Union Rock Star Award.

He holds designations as a Certified Credit Union Executive and a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer. He also has a Master’s in Business Administration through the executive program at Loyola College and a Bachelor of Science in business and accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park.

 If you had not chosen your current profession, what profession would you choose and why?

Professor or Pastor: love to teach, research and learn; and simultaneously be a coach either for golf or basketball; I believe I am commissioned to make a difference in student’s/people’s lives and be a shining light to my fellow mankind.

Favorite vacation:

Banff Springs and the Lake Louise area in the Canadian Rockies – I worked there while I was in College and it’s absolutely wonderful in late May/Early June. I also love Yosemite where I lived for over a year.

When I want to relax, I … :

Like to play golf; especially with my adult children or my business partners and preferably in a competitive situation. Also travel with my bride and spouse, Ann.
