Thank you all who supported our Marathon Run
Thank you!
I would like to thank everyone who sponsored Wavebreak Media and friends in our endeavours to raise money for iKhaya le Themba. We raised 3,000 USD in total which is being transferred to the Charity in Cape Town to help support the children there. I so much appreciate the efforts and would like to thank all the Wavebreak Media Team. Special Kudos to our relay team who had little time to prepare! Those who donated, collected, organised bake sales, organised black and white portraits and so much more.
In another take on "you need to be cruel to be kind" some folk put a number of incentives for me to do a good time; e.g. an extra 2 Euro for the charity for each minute under 3.10 and also doubling up on the donation if I did in 3.05. I did manage to get the bonus' albeit with barely being able to walk for 3 days afterwards (visual evidence of pain crossing the finishing line attached!). Every bit of the pain was worth when it meant some extra funds for this charity.
There are people in this world who are doing amazing things for charity which takes far more effort that running a marathon and I admire them greatly for this. No matter how busy or stressful work may get, we all must find that bit of time to do something to help those less fortunate. Even just one or two small things a year makes a difference. What amazed me with this event was how so many people jumped on board and wanted to help out in some way. Thank you all who helped.
This is an extract from a Thank You email from the director at the charity which I would like to share with you. It moved me when i read it and hopefully it may inspire anyone reading this to do something for those less fortunate, however big or small that thing may be.
"Dear Sean and Wavebreak Media,
This note comes with huge thanks and much love for funding iKhaya through the Cork City Marathon. Wow! This was an important blessing and an incredible way to provide hope to some of the most orphaned and vulnerable children in our community! You and Sean have become champions and role models to children who need giants like you in their lives. Thank you all so much for showing the kids and their caregivers that they are not alone. Your partnership has empowered our kids and community with great hope for the future! Sean’s compassionate reach out to us after the fire and his boldness to extend that reach to all of you is just an incredible lifeline to iKhaya. When you come to Cape Town, please know you are all invited as our very honoured guests. Please receive this heartfelt thanks from all of us at iKhaya, including kids, parents and the community of Imizamo Yethu. "
Anyone who would like to help this charity or join us next time in a joint fund raise please be sure to drop me a line. Perhaps someone in our industry is reading this and would like to link up next time to help out? I have personally visited the iKhaya le Themba and have seen first hand the amazing work that is being done to help the children. Please, do reach out if you feel you would like to work together on the next fund raise.
