Thank God for Mommies!

Thank God for Mommies!

Thank God for Mommies!

I stuttered something fierce as a kid! A single sentence took an eternity to verbalize. I learned to stay quiet and stay in my place. Kids can be cruel.??????

Every writing assignment was lit up like a evil Christmas tree, Red bows and Nots all over!

* You're NOT focused

* There's NOT any structure in your sentence structure

* Your penmanship is NOT becoming

* Graduation! Oh NOT this Year!

Mommy had to lobby something fierce for me not to be left back in the 3rd grade.

If not for my perfect older sister, who was the Valedictorian of the school, (BTW, who the principal adored) I might have had three 3rd grade years!

During my best years, I brought home (D) and (D -'s).

With mommy, there was never belts being flared, side eyes that said YOU Big Dummy, or curt smiles that shouted, your brother and sisters are A+ students, what the . . .

Nope, just glowing hugs that said, "baby you're amazing and I'm praying for you."

I suspect close friends badgered her saying Mary Felder, what do you see in the kid?

When I was hit by a car and drug 2 city blocks, the doctor wanted to rip the skin off my behind to repair my foot, momma shouted no, don't touch him. Her eyes said Eddie you're amazing and I'm praying for you.

Was she oblivious to what the physicians saw?

At 3:00 a. m. during my 3 or 4th month in the hospital, a few angry nurses forced me to walk to the bathroom on a shattered foot, and broken pelvic bone because I had the audacity to interrupt their laughter and card game.

Some thought I might never walk again. There was a swift backlash, chaos throughout the hospital and angry chants to " shut them down, shut them down"

In the calmest of demeanors, mommy said Eddie, you'll walk again. Your amazing, I'm praying for you. Like only my mom can, she took things to the next level and prayed for the hospital administrators, and the nurses. ??????

Years later I thought, that hospital could / should have had my name on it. ??????

Then it struck me, how amazing and blessed I am. When others were relentlessly locked in on the cash, she was locked in on the Lord. She was praying for me. She saw the BIG picture.??????

She was praying for me!

When I was flunking out of elementary school, middle school, high school and college, she saw the big picture and she was praying for me.

When my baby was born three and a half months premature and I was concerned they'd named a baby after me that might not survive 15 seconds, or 15 days, she began praying fervently, she believed, she saw the big picture.??????

As I was going thru an ugly divorce, I learned she was praying for my ex-wife, calling her name out loud every morning at 5:00 a.m., I was angry, I was offended. I wanted to scream, you're my mom. She saw the big picture. ??????

Just days ago, mom recited her conversation with the parole board. The guy who had stabbed her 61 times was facing a parole hearing. She said Eddie, I don't hate him. I pray for him!??????

I was like wait, what??? Mom this time you've gone too far! ??????

Then it hit me. As crazy as it might seem, my mom, is just like the Father!

When I am at my worse, when I feel betrayed, when I'm up to shenanigans, when there's no light, no tunnel, and just a morsel of a mustard seed, he's always lobbying fiercely on my behalf. ??????

He sees the best in me!

Mom, on our 50th Mother's Day Anniversary, I say thank you for seeing the big picture, thank you for introducing me to the Father!

I had the opportunity to have lunch and attend Mr. Felder's workshop presentation which sent my brain into overdrive. In a short span of time he stretched my thinking. While reading this narrative I discovered that? we have a lot in common especially; his academic struggles mirrors my own. I look forward to working with him in the near future.
