Thandiwe Mlauli, is our Woman Crush Wednesday, this week and our first crush for the month of November 2022, of amazing women doing wonders in the field of animation.

Thandiwe Mlauli, is the Founder & CEO of Studio Yezi an animation and development studio based in South Africa. Thandiwe Mlauli, the first Black woman to build an animation studio in SA.

Yezi, meaning 'star' is short for “Inkanyezi” in isizulu.

Thandiwe is a producer, director, writer & illustrator who is focused on developing animated stories for African audiences. She is a proud graduate of the New York Film Academy. At Studio Yezi she works with new talent, diverse storytellers and collaborates with young people to illuminate the diversity-lacking local animation industry.?

Thandiwe’s deep desire to nurture fresh talent and reflect positive narratives about Africans has led to her championing a people centered business model for her studio where representation, affirmation, and talent development is the focus.

When Thandiwe Mlauli is not plotting on how to take over the animation industry, she usually spends her time as a mystic, communing with her spiritual tribe. Thandiwe is not only passionate about equalizing the playing field for black creatives on the continent & in the world.
