As some of you may have noticed over the past four years, I do tend to go on about the first project me and my friend Syd Heather made after leaving university “Textual Relationship’ A film that took us two years to make and then spend the next 18 months following it around on the film festivals it get accepted into. Our highlights being the BFI future film festival, and screenings in New Jersey & LA. We loved going to every one of these festivals to share our film with new audiences and have made some great connections whilst there as well.
The official end of the Textual journey was last Friday’s event at the 9th Limelight film awards hosted in the Guildhall London and we are very happy to announce that we had a very unexpected overwhelming evening.
The evening started with a small networking and drink followed by the ceremony, We were in the 2nd award of the night, BEST COMEDY. Irish actor Martin Delaney was the presenter of this award and we honestly couldn’t believe it when he said our name’s. We were over the moon, after a brief interview with the official media partner of the evening, we returned to the amazing great hall where the evening did seem to fly by, all of us smiling the whole way through and slipping on a little of fizz to celebrate.
Then, host of the evening, Slim Comedian announced it was time for the FILM OF THE NIGHT award, which all of the evening's winners are the shortlist for. Slim then passed the mic over to Munsur Ali the founder of the Limelight awards to announce the winner, and to our absolute amazement, he called us! our table went quiet, the whole of team textual just looked at each other mouths open, it honestly felt like we were dreaming. We had no idea we would win one award, let alone two!
We had been living the Textual Relationship journey for so long this really was the perfect end to it. I’m not sure we could even write a better ending ourselves.
This film has always made me smile when I watch back even now, it was soo much fun to make, the cast and crew, whom I regularly thank when we have announcements to make, were great and deserve the success the film has had to date.
I am very proud of the cast, crew, Syd and myself, we set out to make Tom Glover’s short play into a good movie and I think we have done that. We have spent years working on it and now this chapter has pretty much closed I can reflect and be proud of what we have done.
We have got it broadcast on London Live TV channel, won 5 awards in total, nominated on several occasions, screened in the England, Scotland, & both sides of the US, had a 4-page spread in IndieFilmmaker magazine as well as screening at the BFI.
I honestly can’t believe we pulled this all off, two boys who met at a filmmaking club 12 odd years ago, had no connections in the world of film, went to uni to study film further because we love the medium and then finally made a film themselves that has done so well, really makes all the blood sweat and tears that go hand in hand with filmmaking worth it.
I want to end as always by thanking all the people who donated to our Indiegogo campaign to make Textual happen, all my friends and family who supported me no matter what, through the good and the bad, you have really helped us carry on and now we have made a number of projects, we still couldn’t do it without your support.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for help and I look forward to the next chapter in our filmmaking journey.
Thank you, Textual Relationship… I guess we should maybe write a sequel…
