This time Textile Roofs is docking at the Aedes - Architecture Forum

The "Aedes - Architecture Forum" was founded in 1980 by Kristin Feireiss and Helga Retzer as Europe's first private architecture gallery in West Berlin, in 2006 it settled down in Prenzlauer Berg.

The long-standing communication of architecture and building culture has made the Aedes an internationally renowned center for the discourse on contemporary architecture and urban planning.

Not only therefore, the Aedes is the best place to host TR25.

Located in one of Berlin’s most central districts, Prenzlauer Berg, the Pfefferberg areal (with the Aedes in it) is a cultural and artistic center for learning, teaching and research. At the entrance to the site on Christinenstrasse you'll find the Museum for Architectural Drawing by the German architect Sergei Tchoban. Right next door, the artist Olafur Eliasson and his employees work. The so-called South Courtyard is home to the Pfefferbett Hostel Berlin and of the Association for Intercultural Work, as well as the MEINBLAU art and studio house with studios of 12 Berlin artists around a multifunctional project and exhibition space. The ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry is also based there.

And also Ai Weiwei has had his studio in the Pfefferberg since 2015.

Be inspired, join in the discussions and exchange ideas with the other participants from all over the world.

And on the afternoon of the second day as usual we set off for a city tour with the eldest tourboat running in Berlin - but now of course electrified!

The Evening Guest Lecture

Our Evening Guest lecture is presented by Prof. Christiane Sauer, Wei?ensee?school of art and design, Germany. She will speak about

Textile Potentials - Of Soft Constructions and Active Materials

The lecture deals with the scaling of textile construction to the architectural scale. Textiles as a three-dimensional assembly of different components allow the "programming" of properties at the material level. Textile technologies open up a wide range of possibilities for experimenting and designing form and function. Practical examples from research and teaching shed new light on this traditional cultural technique with great future potential.

The Experimental Projects and Hands-On Sessions

As usual, there are several practical projects (formerly known as participant projects) in the afternoons where you can get hands-on.

• In Computational Modeling, form-finding algorithms are explained, the statics of a structure are calculated and the appropriate cut is calculated.
• The Physical Modeling enables an examination of the (im)possibilities of designing structures.
• Tensile Tests are presented and you can guess beforehand, which load different materials can stand.

And of course we will build again an iconic structure together, that roofs the entrance area of the Aedes Architecture Forum using material , a HF Welding Machine and more provided by our partners.
