Textile Roofs 2024
2024, April 28th -30th
Seminarship "Orca ten Broke"
Alt-Moabit 91, 10559 Berlin, GERMANY
Dear friends, loyal supporters and long-time companions of Textile Roofs, dear Textile Roofs interested parties and anyone else.
This time Textile Roofs is taking to the water
Since we have been taking a steamboat trip during the Textile Roofs days for a long time, we simply moved the entire event to a ship. The “Orca ten Broke” - a solar-powered CO2 free seminar ship - will be our “home” for three days at the end of April.
Located at the banks of river Spree on the Focus Teleport site in Moabit, it offers a unique family atmosphere and therefore the right ambience for our community and everyone who wants to join it.
And on the afternoon of the second day we set off for a city tour as usual, but this time with the entire venue. ;-)
This time too it seems that we managed to bring the best of the best into the program ;-). Our international experts (from Japan to the United States of America) present a rich mix of topics relating to membrane construction and textile architecture.
From the very early approaches of Frei Otto (and some amazing stories about him) to questions about material properties, from current interdisciplinary use cases to iconic projects, from questions about the sustainability of lightweight construction to intelligent material recycling, Textile Roofs covers a wide range of important and current topics.
Be inspired, join in the discussions and exchange ideas with the other participants from all over the world.
The Experimental Projects
As usual, there are several practical projects (formerly known as participant projects) in the afternoons where you can get hands-on.

In computational modeling, form-finding algorithms are explained, the statics of a structure are calculated and the appropriate cut is calculated. Physical modeling enables an examination of the (im)possibilities of designing structures. A planning task leads from simple recording of the spatial conditions by Laser-Scanning to the finished structure. We introduce the first pneumatic pavilion and deal with weaving patterns, which are the basis for understanding the soul of a material. Last but not least, we want to get to the bottom of a pneumatic structure. What can it withstand and what happens to it under “overload”?
