Testing, Testing… Is this thing on?
Whether you pass or fail in your email marketing depends on the systems you have in place.

Testing, Testing… Is this thing on? Whether you pass or fail in your email marketing depends on the systems you have in place.

I’ve been writing for a few years now and it's been a real privilege to work with some of the amazing clients that I bumped into along this journey.?

When I first started I was under the impression that everyone had it sort figured out and that businesses made money hand over fist in email.

I couldn't have been more off the mark…

The more I worked with new clients the more I seen they had no systems or processes to:

  1. Build and maintain their email list. (People do unsubscribe)
  2. Keep in touch with the people that opted into the list or after someone buys something, not ensuring their success with the product or services.
  3. And most importantly, create consistent promos, plus, keep the winners and ditch the losers on a month-to-month basis.

Now before you say, hey wait a minute, those must be new businesses that don’t know any better.?

Or some small mom and pop brick and mortar.?

I hate to break it to you but that would be wrong…

In fact, the more people I speak with, the more I’m discovering how Naive I really was.?

It’s not just the mom-and-pop shops, it’s the big box brands as well.

If you take the time to read what they send out, and that’s if they even send consistently, you’d be stunned.

It’s a real mess.?

Cold Institutional, nonhuman element emails that people don’t open.

Beep Boop Bop…

Or if someone sends something out it’s only when they want to sell something and who really likes to be in a one-sided relationship anyway?

So how do you create consistency, write promos that make sales, and maintain relationships with your tribe of followers?

All you need is an email list (or start building one), a product or products, and a simple checkout experience… and you can be making money.

It all starts with a process or a system.

First, you create a plan.

Second, put the plan in place.

Third, be willing to test.

So I’m going to cover from a high level the plan your business should have.

Tell me Man… What Do I need??Okay, I will...

The people that end up on your list are already aware of your company so you don’t have to worry about anything except…

Making the proper introductions when they first opt-in.

This is generally a few emails that explain the who, what, and why of your business.

I’ve seen people send out some of the most impersonal emails at this step.

Boilerplate stuff that has the personality of a skunk at a summer picnic.

Yes, I’m from the south, don’t judge.

First impressions are everything and if they signed up for a free trial or some kind of lead magnet…

Do your emails match what you want as an end goal??

Like, get them out of the trial and into the paid product…

That’s just one example…

Now I’m going to show what I mean by putting a plan in place to profit from your list.?

You need to figure this out asap… because every day you aren’t sending emails is a lost opportunity.?

And last time I checked Opportunity Cost is expensive.

When you have your plan to email regularly in place you’ve got to figure out…

What gets you the best results with the least amount of effort…

And then create a process for doing that thing consistently.?

Having a step-by-step process for planning, writing, and launching a new email promotion… week after week should be your top priority.

It’s the best, fastest, and easiest way I know of to get more – and more consistent – sales.

Plus stay in front of your people that are on your list and want help from you and your brand.

You said you can help, they liked what you said, they got on your list and now you gotta deliver.?

If you aren’t showing up, how do they know you can help?

So to take the riddle and enigma away and pull back the curtain, we get to the all-important information inside your business.

  • What do people on my list want to buy, and buy the most of?
  • How much should I charge and can I increase the price?
  • What bonuses push them over the edge?
  • What types of copy do my subscribers like to read?
  • Which segment of my list is the most profitable (and how do I find more people like them)??

And most importantly…?

“How do I make more money WITHOUT taking huge and unnecessary risks?”

And the answer to that question might shock you...

Consistency in Broadcast Promotions

You see everyone raves about having everything automated and evergreen.

In other words, running 24/7 and never letting you down so your business can make money while you sleep.?

All of the intricate automation that screen, categorize, and directs people into the perfect sales page...?

Don’t forget the amazing funnels that do all the work for you… So you never have to interact with your followers…

And you get to hang out and watch the latest greatest shiny object show on Youtube as you wonder how 3 hours passed…?

Now don’t get me wrong.

I love automation and complexity. I’m a nerd, I can’t help but be drawn to it.?

But if you were to ask me what I’d do to bring consistency to the backend of my business.?

I’d say Broadcast promotions.

In fact, I know someone is going to completely disagree…

If you’re serious about making money in email marketing and not trying to send out neat, non-revenue generating emails…

You should send a new email to your entire email list… with some sort of offer or call to action… Every. Single. Week. and oh by the way… Every. Single. Day.?

Why? Because broadcast promotions give the subscriber something (Automated) evergreen campaigns don't…

A reason to take action now!

It doesn't have to be a pitch email either. Something that brings value to their world.

Hopefully, you’re not allergic to selling to people and don't use institutional advertising in your emails…

Because if so, be prepared to get a bunch of…

Nothing.

You see because most people – have a million and one decisions they need to make on an hour-by-hour basis… plus all of the competing priorities to deal with.

So, even if they can’t live without what you're selling... if you don't give them a chance to buy right now... there’s a high probability they're not going to buy at all.?

It’s a case of out of sight out of mind.

Because once they close your email, something else is already fighting for their attention.?

Another phone call... a new email... their kids... that proposal they have to get done...?

All the "things" that become their new top priority at that moment.

I’m a firm believer that people don’t have limited capacity when it comes to focusing… It’s that there weren't enough reasons to take you up on your offer.

And once that drive to take action on your offer is gone... they're going to forget all about you, your offer, or why they were looking at it in the first place.

So how do you cut through the noise? How do you make what you're selling their top priority? How do you get your reader to act now?

The Power of Presence!

Done the right way…

Because it’s human nature to move on to the next thing quickly.

That's the elegance of using broadcast emails.?

It keeps you interacting with people that are on your list.?

And the reader knows if they don't click through now, buy now, they'll miss out on the special offer you're making.

So the key takeaway is this...

Staying present, and a good offer is the number one reason why people buy.

And broadcast promotions are the best way to do this.

But consistency (aka...Being present in email regularly) is just one of the many reasons to use reason broadcast promotions instead of having an over-dependence on automation...

Because broadcast promos will add something magical to your list.

Higher levels of engagement.?

If you’re wanting to make sales consistently on the backend of your funnel…

It’s a must to have a highly engaged list…

Broadcast Promos give your readers a reason to open your emails every day.?

Provided you keep it fresh, fun, and timely.?

They’ll have a reason to engage with you. And a new opportunity to get excited about what you’re selling.

You can't do that with automation (or at least not easily).?

Plus all of the testing, costs, and tweaking involved trying to automate it all.

The likelihood of creating a magic money machine is pretty low right out of the gate.

I know what you're thinking… So I've got a chance?

I’d ask this question.

Why spend so much time trying to reinvent the wheel and use what all of the major players making real money in email use.?

Please, don’t misunderstand, I'm not anti-automation.?

In fact, when used the right way automations are a lifesaver… but they have to be used the right way.

Automations should be used if the subscriber did something specific to trigger it.

For example… someone opts-in to your list from a lead magnet… and they become a new subscriber…

Your automation would send them a welcome to the list sequence.

If they don’t complete their purchase and abandoned cart…?

You use an automation that sends out an abandoned cart sequence to try and recover the sale.?

Or they signed up for Masterclass or Webinar… the automation sends out a “keep em’ hot” sequence to increase the show-up rate.

But if you want to consistently make money from your email list every week?

Use broadcast promotions instead of an over dependence automation.
